The aircon condenser is a pretty hefty lump.

taking the dash out is easy. getting it back in & not squeaking isn't something we attempted.

Has anyone got any pics or tips on where to start, what about the clocks etc do they need to come out?

I've never removed a dash before as you all may have gathered.

It shouldn't Squeak after I cover everything with silicone spray.;)

cheers

how big a job was it getting the dash out Kev?
all done from inside the car or some other fixings in the bulkhead are?

next on my list of how to skin an ibiza project.

All inside if I remember correctly...

s-wheel off
stalks off
stereo panel off
clocks out
unplug light switch and other dash switches

if not already out then glove box out and pass. airbag disconnect/remove (didn't have mine in might be able to leave in place?!)

there are two lower side fixings and four main ones on the bulkhead... most of the heater/aircon is attached to the bulkhead though.

You wouldn't believe the amount of sh*t you can 'lose' from behind the dash, and in fact from the dash itself!

Quite easy really, although my car was off the road when I did it so I had no rush. Hope this helps.

That retained the heater matrix (at that point) but not the air con condenser

A lot of excess wiring to be found as well

an aweful lot - keep finding wires on mine that dont do anything - inside the car there are only about 12 now LOL - 'rationalising' the engine bay loom presently

(as well as drilling....lots of drilling......3hrs of drilling last night on the front panel....seriously lighter now and still a couple hrs to do tonight - going to have it powder coated when its done, will look mint ! (considered chrome actually LOL)

ROB, what weight do you think you will get down to?

any pics of how it is now?

I think its definately possible to dip under the 900kg mark with a 16V ibiza in race spec (baring in mind you have lost a lot but also gained some bits also, cage, extinguishers etc etc) - thats what I'm going for, 850 would be great but perhaps a bit optimistic given I am still running lights / heater and a few 'comforts' - fully gutted Mk2 golfs are rarely under 850kg - but we will see

Latest project is front end - lighter panel as already discussed - but also new wrc-spec short radiator (full std width but 100mm shorter) with tiny fans (original fan assembly and cowling is outrageously heavy) giving room for a big forward pointing airbox above it - this puppy is gonna breathe this time !

No pics right now as it looks a bit sad without an engine :( - pics later

sounds good mate, wonder if we could get a company to start producing some fiber glass body pannels for the mark 2/3, bonnets and boots would be a good weight saving

20kg was just that day m0rk... I had just over 40kg of cr*p out from behind the dash and off the dashboard.

Put the rods and pistons back in last night, Stealth have the head now so she'll be back together in tiptop condition again v soon. Then someone can buy a nice toy!
