Flashing means low pressure. They probably havent gassed it up again as compressor is duff so against the law to refill a knowingly broken ac system.

The flashing climate control screen indicates that there is a fault with the system and it's logged an error code.
A regular OBDII code reader won't be able to scan it as it's separate from the ECU fault memory.
VCDS will be able to read it and give you the fault or a code to get you started. Common faults are AC compressor failure, AC pressure switch, empty gas or break in the climate control wiring.

You can get used compressor fir £35-£50 on ebay. Fitting is probably 1.5 hrs so about another £80 plus regas.
