Well happy with new car, but....

Picked up my '55 plate Altea 1.9 TDi on Tuesday, and am well impressed with it so far, but a couple of (very) minor niggles are that the windscreen smears slightly when the wipers are on, so I was going to clean the wiper blades, but with them parking in the vertical position, I have found that I can't get at them :confused: !!.
Tried turning the ignition off mid-sweep, but they still park in the vertical position. Am I missing something here, or do you have to remove the plastic trim at the edge of the windscreen to get at the wipers ??
Also, the car doesn't have any floor mats, and I would like some genuine SEAT ones, and was wondering if the "stealers" are going to rip me off ???

I think the wiper answer is in the manual (but it can be done)

I'd get the mats from ebay

The wipers can be stopped in service mode by turning ignition on then off, within aprox 8 seconds push the wiper stalk into the intermittent position this should stop the blades at the bottom of the screen.
here is a link to an online manual its on page 219
hope it helps you out

Cheers Buddy...got a pair of Bosch replacement blades yesterday from my local motor factors, and couldn't believe the price....they were listing at £43 + vat for a pair, but I managed to get them for ONLY £26 +vat !! Hate to think how much they are from the stealers :-o
Managed to fit them easily enough though (thanks to the above recommendations), and the new ones are a vast improvement.
Looked on Flea-bay at floor mats, and see that genuine ones are about £40 a set, whilst non-genuine ones are about £15...are they any good though ???

Another thing I am concerned about (God, I sound more like Victor Meldrew every day !!)
is the spare wheel (or lack of one !!). Has any one had a major blow out, whereby the tin of sealant and compressor have been rendered useless due to the irrepairable....irreper ....irrepp.....knackered (!!) state of the tyre ??
I am wondering whether it would be worthwhile to join a recovery firm just for that extra peace of mind ??

Hi,
Wipers blades and smearing have been an issue for me for nearly 3 years and i have tried every windscreen cleaner under the sun and used various windscreen wash mix etc. replaced the £40 blades about 4-5 times and ok for a wee while. Now just bought the rubbers at only £10+ post a pair from Seremotors in NI (dave Hawthorne) catch him on some other areas of forum.
They were relatively easy to fit, although i had to file a bit of the "barB" at the top to get the in, once they have stayed there no problems.
They are doing fine still slightly smearing but no idea why it is so bad in this car as i have never had this continual problem before???

I've got a space saver stored under the false floor of the boot, has come in handy in the past.

Cheers chaps...just booked to go to France in the summer, so am thinking it will be a good idea to get a space-saver from somewhere. Thinking the scrappers will be the cheapest option, but are they Seat-specific, or will one from a Volkswagen/Skoda/Audi/anything else, fit ??

Not sure mate as mine came with the car but I'd hazard a guess that a VW etc one would do the trick.

I don't know about VW and Audi, but Skoda don't supply space savers. They supply a full size replacement spare.

Irish Alteas and Toledos came with space saver spare wheels as standard, fitted in polystyrene holder in the wheel well with jack and brace. Exactly the same one as appears in VW, Skoda, Audi etc.
