Has anyone every had any problems when driving through deep puddles, i know it sounds odd, but whenever i drive through a decent amount of standing water, (a couple of inches not a lake lol) my engine will stop revving past 1000rpm, even with my foot welded to the floor, it will keep running, just refuse to accelerate. It gets going again but only after the heat from the engine has steamed off all the water. Ive tried removing the plastic sump guard and still have the same problem. Any ideas?

Mine done that but it cut out after trying to rev it, or it went really stuttery. And wouldn't start if you tried untill it dried out lol.

I just covered the dizzy cap in chain wax selant kinda stuff, and the HT leads in it. Sorted it out,

Duno about yours though but thatmight help.

i got mudflaps, im a rally car, i am for big puddles lol! its probably just damp/water in the intake and ignition systems and soon gets dried out :)

at least youve not got a BMW the intake system is in the lower bumper by the fog lamos, one decent puddle and its all over :D

my old 1.4 did that quite often, I *normally* drive a big diesel van so pudles etc arent a problem *wheres the Devil smilie* but on the odd occasions I forgot I was in the car rather than the van, ..

Same here. I was on my way to Newcastle the other month, hit some major puddles on the way down - car ran like a bag of nails for approx 2 mins.

I thought it was down to my K&N external intake but thinking again now it might be the dizzy cap!!

Cheers.

What the Mini people do to cure this problem is to get a Marigold glove, cut the finger-tips off and then run the HT leads through the fingers to the Dizzy. If you then zip-tie all of the openings closed the ignition system is much less prone to water ingress in wet weather. Looks a bit silly though ;)
