What are the signs of a coilpack going?

Car seems to be flooding itself and then going but letting out smoke, and generally running rough. Only started on the way to work.

Could it be the coilpack? Only new to this car so not sure what the signs are of a dieing coilpack

Coilpack gone would be engine management light on, car running on 3 cyclinders. Horrible smell, sounding horrible, you'd know about it!

rough running generally and vagcom reporting misfires, easily dealt with and inexpensive. One of mine went but didnt smell at all.

mine just went, was only misfiring under load though, this is my 4th to go, rest all went fully, so running on 3 and lots of unburnt fuel smells!!

as above, rough running, only firing on 3, something wrong if your on your 4th though tbh.

All of the above exept my engine management light isn't coming on, but when I turn the ignition on the engine light doesn't come on, does this mean someone could have broke the bulb or something so it cant show up faults?

I bought a new coilpack and put tried it in each cylinder separetaly but still rang like a bag of ****

Under load smoke is really flying out of it

could just be a boost pipe which is split or popped off..this could make it run rough and puff black smoke out.
