Go and drive an Ibiza Cupra TDI or the Leon FR 170......then come back and say that.
:cartman:

If I did the kind of mileage that would make a diesel an economic necessity I would consider one- but on my annual mileage it would make no sense to have to listen to a rattling donk or fill up at the greasy pump.
The increased range is a dubious advantage -my longest daily run last year was 540 miles but the fuel stops were welcome.
Since there would be no point in one for me I enjoy the zippy response of the Tfsi and the Dsg.
I'm sure you can go very fast especially when you up the boost:clap:
-mine is as fast as I can use.

I wasn't expecting a sensible response, I was expecting a biased PETROL vrs diesel argument.

The noise from the diesels gets lost once up to road speeds and only really comes back once sat at junctions/lights/etc.

The upper end TDI's are now very sporting, the 40-70 sprint in most is very good. The wife keeps up no problems in the Ibiza Cupra TDI when following me in the K1.

The economics of both are actually very questionable as the TDI only becomes cheaper if you are doing astronomical miles per year (once you add all costs up).

For me petrol is fun but I love the grunt you get from the diesels and was somewhat gutted that SEAT didn't do a Leon Cupra TDI.

Solution= [K1]+[Revo Stage 2+] + [HPFP] + [TBE] + [CAI] = :wave: + [Cupra TDi]

 I don't go bananas when the wife is following, but considering the Ibiza was mine for 3 years before I picked up the K1 I know how quick it is as standard.

If I were to do all that to the K1, it could be argued that with a hybrid turbo, remap, new clutch and exhaust on the TDI it would be almost as quick as the K1.

My point being that there is very little between modern petrol/derv cars and it is now more down to personal preference.

I like both, but if I could only chose one it would the derv.

I'm sat just a tiny bit over on the opposite side of the fence. I respect the diesels hugely, and would happily have a 335d coupe, but the stage 2+ spec with haldex grip off the line is just too intoxicating to be swayed from at the current cost of motoring. In standard mode I'd probably sway the way of the diesel.

What do you guys think would win in a sprint race.
A leon tdi fr 170 chipped or a leon fr petrol dsg standard?

i've the answer for this one ;)

From a standing start - its dsg off the line then the tdi catches up and its head to head to 100 with TDI just getting ahead.
from a rolling start (20mph) then the TDI wins to 100.
Only if the TDI is remapped - and the dsg is standard.

If its a non-dsg standard tfsi against a remapped TDI - then TDI wins both to 100.
