It really makes very little difference what you buy as long as it is pink.

The volume is in the manual.

I bought a 5l bottle of Mobil 1 stuff from Halfords... diluted down it's lasted me 2 changes now, and confirms to all the VW stamps needed for the LCR, LC etc etc... wasn't too expensive either, but can't remember exactly how much!

You can. You want the 5 year 'advanced' stuff, not the blue 2 year 'normal' stuff.

A great tip is to mix it 50/50 with water before you pour it in, then no matter how much you put in, the mixture will always be correct. You can store the excess in something like a fizzy drinks bottle - it doesn't go off like brak fluid. Then whenever you need to top up, use the pre-mixed stuff and bingo you always have 50/50 in the engine.

It used to be 2 years for the blue stuff, but the red stuff lasts much longer. Some manufacturers suggest five years, some suggest that it lasts as long as the car. Your choice.

VAG call the blue stuff G11, and the pink stuff G12, if that helps. Don't ever mix them up.

Just to confuse the issue, VAG have a brand new coolant - G12+ which is purple and can be mixed with both G11 and G12.

Yup - it's a pain - remember you don't want the stuff in there neat - it's got to be diluted (probable 1:4 for winter)

IIRC you almost have to remove the intercooler 'cross' pipe to get at the bottom clip - do yourself a favour & get a jubilee clip to replace it with

if you read the bottles to g12 that you should not be able to get any more as is old stock it says change every 6 years. g12+ says life time protection, or when your water pump goes that is
