What does the clutch switch actually do?

On my car it sends a signal to the cruise control to disengage when the clutch is pressed, but it can be there even if cruise control isn't fitted as standard.
On some other cars it prevents the car from being started unless the clutch pedal is held down, although I'm not sure that applies to SEAT.

it just tells if the clutch is up or not. dont know 100% why i think its something to do with the revs. if its in the wrong place the revs can go up 500 for no reason when changing gear. someone might correct me.

i did notice when i change gears sometimes, the revs either stay where they were or rise slightly,

U can screw it to fix this problem? I thought you just had to replace it? Or does this not apply to Leon's. just searching threads...
Mine do that welded a nut onto the metal where it screws in so it doesnt pop out anymore sorted
