after a right mess, i need to look for another box. the box on the car was an err 6 speed
but seem to be hard to find, but im know looking at an fzq again, a 6 speed.

which one is better?

there bother for the lean 1.8t 20v

havnt a clue mate, mine had a err one. i brought one which was also a err, but its cracked on the case where the starter goes. but the one ive just slapped a bid on, is a fzq so?

never really looked into what boxes are on what models.
i did find a site, but carnt find it now.

ERR, FML, and FZQ boxes have all been in the Leon.

Gear ratios are below:

ERR 1.8 ltre Golf/Jetta 98-99 + Leon Cupra R 1)3.42 2)2.11 3)1.48 4)1.15 5)1.17 6)0.97 FD1)3.88 FD2)3.1

FML 1.8 litre Golf/210 & 225 Leon Cupra Rs 1)3.36 2)2.09 3)1.47 4)1.15 5)1.19 6)0.98 FD1)4.18 FD2)3.09

FZQ 1.8 ltre Golf/ Mk1 Leon Cupra 1)3.36 2)2.09 3)1.47 4)1.15 5)1.19 6)0.98 FD1)3.94 FD2)3.09

The FD1 is the final drive for 1-4, FD2 is for 5&6. :)

Not sure if there are any other differences internally (like bearings etc) - the ERR box has the longest FD for 1-4 while the FML has the shortest. All three FD for 5&6 are as near as the same.

so the fml box would reach speed slightly quicker. where as the err would take slightly longer.

so the fzq is in between really.

well down to the ratios anyways.
thanks for that mate

Hi

Just changed my g/box from FML to ERR, to be honest, can't really notice any difference between the two, so FZQ would be fine.

Leon LC

well after seeing if i can get a replacment hose, the read out states my car is a 2002 model
but came with a fml box?

so someone fitted the err box to it.

on a plus side, i went to pick the fzq box, to find its from a 2003 cupra r, theres acouple of differnt bits including the drain plugs. so now need to find a socket for it.
looks like a splin bit, but will have a hole in it?

ebay job i think

but told this box is stonger than the err ones.
so i think i did pretty well to pick it up for 206 quid :)

thanks for all the info guys, if i can get this water hose. the car will be back up & running soon
