I'm thinking of selling my car, but I can't seem to get a reasonable idea of what to price it at. There a huge difference between parkers guide and whatcar free valuation, plus they seem to be all over the place on autotrader? Due to being 6'5 tall and recently developing a dodgy back, I really wanted to PX or straight swap it for a bigger car (vectra or similar) with more leg room and an auto-box. However, the dealers I have emailed have not been intereted in even seeing the car or have given silly offers, so I guess I will be selling privately.

Car is a 2004 '04' TDI SE (130) 119k, 2 previous owners. Full service history including recent new intercooler and two new tyres for the MOT.

No major faults, a few stone chips and scraches on the paintwork which reflect the mileage/age but nothing really nasty. Air/con works and everything is in overall good (but not 'mint') condition I would say.

It won't let me upload the picture as I don't have 15 posts, however change the ?? with tt

Are you looking at the trade prices in Parkers? Private sales on Autotrader for the same spec and mileage are £4000 - £4250.

I was looking at parkers free valuation (4,095 @ 70,000 miles) and then whatcar (£2,745 @ 119,000miles) .... Then the auto trader advert prices vary from £1995 to £6000 (lol!).

I would guess that mine is towards the lower end due to the mileage? And the miles may put some people off. But apart from a few tell tale stone chips on the bonnet you would never know it has done 119k... also it has basically a full history and has been well maintained.

So I don't know really... Might have to bang the AT and see what response I get.

I paid £2800 for my 1.6 18months ago and I think the magazines valued it about £1750! They're not in the real world.

Diesels are more popular than ever thanks to fuel prices. Put the effort into selling it and I think you'll get £3800 for £4100.

Edit - £2700 for a 130TDI is giving it away! That's a 90 S price.

I'd say £2700 mate

You mean advertise it for 2700 or have that as a bottom price in your mind? Because I can see 2700 attracting offers for around 2400ish, as everyone wants a few quid off don't they?

I would love to PX it, but I'm looking for a similar age /value of car and it seems most dealers are gonna offer low PX prices against a similar age car. This means I get shafted at both ends, paying 2k cash + my car for a 54plate vectra on the forecourt at £3795.

Juding by the response and the links posted, I might advertise it for £3195 ono???

I reckon you might get £3500 if you're lucky and the rest of the car is nice condition.

The guide prices aren't accurate, so ignore them and look at the market prices on Auto Trader and eBay.
