I thought the lcr engine (bam) in my case needed 503.01 (504 now) spec same as audi tt/s3 bam engine?

mobil 1 is 503.01 and is what I use.

Mobil 1 0W-40
Our lineup of Mobil 1 motor oils includes a 0W-40 viscosity, which is the viscosity recommended by many European car builders. Mobil 1 0W-40's wide viscosity range provides unsurpassed levels of protection and an overall smooth driving experience. Mobil 1 0W-40 keeps engines starting in Arctic-extreme cold, and it cleans deposits, sludge and varnish often formed in high temperature operating conditions.

Mobil 1 0W-40 meets key industry and car builder specifications for:

Mercedes MB 229.5
BMW Longlife 01

Porsche Approval List 2002
VW 502.00/505.00/503.01

GM-LL-A-025 (gasoline)
GM-LL-B-025 (diesel)

ACEA A3, B3/B4
API SM/CF

Exceeding industry standards and the major leading builder requirements is the cornerstone of the performance reserve that lets Mobil 1 0W-40 keep performing well after conventional oils cannot. Mobil 1 0W-40 provides the widest range of protection -- providing the extreme cold start protection of an 0W grade and the high temperature protection of an SAE 40 grade.

For more information, see the Mobil 1 0W-40 Product Data Sheet.

Ive used mobil 1 0w-40 since new.Top oil and also available in 5lt containers which means i dont have to buy any 1lt bottles to do a change and it leaves enough left over to top up with after time. The way i see it is, 5lts for about £42 works out a very good price per lt for one of the top oils out there.

I put Mobil 1 5w30 in mine, was a bit of a no brainer in my case though. I do have to say however that since I did the oil change the car seems to want to go a lot more and seems more responsive, am sure its just coincidence though as the car had a service in september which was before I brought it. am sure I read that they had used a 10w40 though

just had a service and the guys used 5w30 semi synthetic oil in my car, will that do any damage to engine, reduce performance?

No mate, car will run fine. All LCR's left the factory with semi synthetic and unless the owner states otherwise seat dealers will (in most cases) continue to service the vehicle with semi synthetic. Its all a balance of performance, engine life and the big one COST. Theres absolutely no doubt about it fully synthetic IS the best oil you can use, the only exceptions are older vehicles (i.e <1999ish) where because the oil is thinner you are more likely to get an oil leak. Hope that sort of helps!

turbin I don't know the difference or the reason why, I'm sure Chris can discuss at length and probably has before but I thought 504 00 and 507 00 was the required approval?. That VW 502/505 listing could be the same?.
Although personally I've not heard of anyone harming their engine with the wrong oils but I'm sure it happens all the time.

You're right it does! I work for BMW (yes im a technician, and no im not a ****** like most of the disrespectful :censored:!) and about a couple of months ago i worked on a womans e46 320d and she ended up with a 2300 pound bill for repairing the damage she had caused by using a 10w-40 semi sythetic instead of a 0w-30 fully sythetic!!! Not good!

open your manual and look in the chapter of engine stuff. Whatever manual say goes a long way

how much oil do you need for an oil change? is it 5 litres?

around 4.5 litres so buying 5L means you have a bit leftover for topups (if you need any)

I use 5W40 Motul 8100 XCess, previous owner used 5W40 Motul 300V Power- probably the best oil out there but expensive... You can see the improved cooling when driving hard for extended periods of time eg. long motorway stretches or evening racing ;)

Same as above. Im using 5W40 Motul 8100 XCess... But i was planning to change to 5W40 Motul 300V power. But as far as i remember there is no mention of meeting vw specification. I know that some people use it right? it will be ok yes ?

It actually exceeds every possible manufacturer spec, that's what it says on the can anyway ;) but honestly i noticed that the EGT gauge went down a lot quicker (the engine cooled down faster) on 300V. But it works best in moderate - high temps on a warm/hot engine and we had a harsh winter in Poland this year so I temporarily downgraded to 8100 XCess :(

For the price they're charging it has to be good. I'm pretty sure it only comes in 2L cans @ 30 quid each, and you need nearly 5L for an oil change. More than twice the cost of your usual oil but well worth it
