I'm looking to replace the two 225/40/18's on the front of my FR170 Tdi. I'm not driving it 'balls out' all the time, and I would only class my driving style in this car to be gentle with the odd 'spirited' 5 mins. The car does a quite a few miles up and down the motorway (for work use) and I need something thats going to grip reasonable, but also importantly last a 'reasonable time'. I read and read reviews on different sites, but not many people comment on WEAR rates. Any views on something that will last AND do for day to day driving? I've seen Falken 452's are reasonable price and tempted to try them?

Thanks!!

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas seem very highly rated for performance vs value for money.
Goodyear Assymetrics seem to be the tyre of the minute and for long lasting vs performance there's also the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s which are OE fitment on a lot of serious high performance cars.

I haven't used the Assymetrics yet, but am a big fan of the GSD3's (their predecessors) which I have on the A3 at the moment. I would describe the type of driving done in the A3 to be the same as you and in 10,000 miles of driving they still look virtually brand new on the back of the car.

I've used them on several other cars and each time I've found the grip to be great and the wear rate very good if you're nice to them. I think a lot of the people posting on here about tyres only lasting 10k or less are giving the cars some serious stick!

I have put 452's on and so far so good - grip levels are really good, wear rate seems ok

Have you been using them all round?
What is the grumbling sound like from rear from tyres from moving from pirellis?
Thanks

id say the Goodyear Assymetrics 2s - had them on prior to this set and they were fantastic (plus they seem to win every year on tyrereviews.co.uk)

now I had Michelin Pilot sport 2s which are good but not as good as the goodyears, cant wait to get goodyears again
