Hey guys & girls,

just wanted some help/advice really.
This time last week the cambelt went on my X Reg Seat Leon 1.4 16v (not a major car but very convinient for me). I got the car towed back to my mechanic where it is is currently waiting for him to have a look at it.
I suspect from information i have read and other sources that the engine is now going to be ruined.
The engine is an AXP model. Does anybody have an idea of the cost of one of these engines? or a source where i can compare prices?
Also does anybody know which part of the engine i would need to replace i presume the whole main block? but should i be aware of anything else that needs to be changed?
i probaly sound like a right noob writing this but im just trying to work out my options.
Any information anybody has would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks fro your time.

Luke

When I blew my ibiza up at santa pod I bent 4 valves and ruined a 2 pistons so I replaced these parts.....obviously needed head checking and pressure testing, rods checking, new gaskets etc and quite a bit of labour.

It would have been far easier and cheaper for me to have bought a second hand engine from breakers and just put the whole lot in.....so thats my advice...ring round the breakers and get some prices, some places offer a warranty to.

depends on who you know, sod stripping down the hole engine labour wise it would be cheaper to fit a warrenty recon engine!!! and as it is a 14.16v its used between the vag group so shouldnt be to hard to find, engine price any where between £500 & £1000 mate for 2nd hand one.

unless you no a mechanic who will rebuild the old one for cash ????????????????

What are 1.4 16v Leon's worth these days?

Reckon you might not be far off picking another one up once you factor in the labour, carriage & engine (and new cam belt on the new engine!!)

Hey Guys, thanks for all your prompt replies. i picked the car up from my mechanic Saturday morning. He changed the cambelt, rollers, tensioners and water pump fired it up and is running like a dream so i guess i was just lucky! :)
one small problem i do have now though is that the diagnosis light is up on the dash board of my car. in the owners manual it says this come up whenever the car breaks down. is it just a case of getting this turnt off now ?
thanks again everyone

That all depends on why its on mate, get who ever is going to turn it off to write the code down so you know what it is.......if it comes straight back on you know you have a problem :)
