What tyre width?

Is it possible to put on wheels 17x7,5 put tyres 225x40 ? What is the maximum size of tyre what can I put on these wheels ? I have got Standard suspension, i just want to get better comfort and traction in my cupra on Polish roads where is a lot of holes.
