Hi iv posted before but just feeling really annoyed by the whole situation with my new car, i passed my test and then went about getting a car, looked online etc went to see a few and felt a bit miffed with the condition of some of them. It was always an ibiza i wanted for years. And passing my test at age 27 my insurance wasnt too bad either. Anyway my brother in law who knows alot about cars and worksbwith a mechanic at weekends on top of his own job said he knew of one for sale that would be perfect, a 2006 1.4 special edition dab. So we went to see it and i test drove it and it was great, mileage up at 96000 which i said not sure i want so high, and was told that with seats thats nothing they are so good and that its a timing chain not a belt and its a great car nothing wrong with it bla bla bla. Anyway i paid 1600 for it as i was too scared to go elsewhere and im a guy that knows makes and models not mechanics and him and my sister have no gain in me buying it.
Anyway the first night i had it drove around a while got petrol and went a run, engine management light came on, so got taken to garage, cleared it off and said its fine, 2 days later on again! Then said look just service it too and sort it out said it was 02 sensor and would order part but its fine to drive.......was serviced and car felt great, 3 days later on again so i was too worried to drive it so left it sitting andnwas then to go in and my bro in law picked it up took it to mechanic cleared it off again and i said so is that it fixed......no wrong part came so light will prob come on again soon but its totally fine to drive. Has resulted in arguements as iread about how you can damage cat conv if you dont sort it and they are saying you need to trust us bla bla bla. Then discovered passenger window doesnt open its a horrible noise when u press the button but they said theybwould fix that too. Just feel a bit done out my money and also when it was serviced was told oh its the 1.2 with timing chain not the 1.4.

What would you all do now, go elsewhere get it fixed?
Feel its ruined my first car experience!

(Sorry for the rant)

Start by using some paragraphs and punctuation, because that **** is ****ing impossible to read.

Then get (the correct) lambda sensor installed.
Then start saving up to fix whatever go's wrong next.

Whoever told you a Seat was a pillar of reliability was taking the piss.

Let the garage fix it if its under warranty, so you won't have to pay if you go elsewhere

If your not happy with the car, ask if you can return the car for your money back?

If the garage has offered to fix it, I would let them fix it. Its to be expected when buying a car. Ok, some people like to trade up to always have a newer model or a newer reg plate. But a lot of people get to the point where a repair or a fault comes up and it just feels better or more economical to trade it than fix it. If the garage are going to fix it foc then no harm done.

I've bought loads of used cars that have had 2-3 faults they had to go back with within the first couple of weeks. I'm sure the previous owner knew about them and one I'm sure the garage knew about hoping I wouldn't notice.

Most places sell a car with 3-6 month warranty anyway, so get it back to the garage and have the Lambda and window fixed.

Find someone local with VCDS and get it scanned, see if anything else comes up too.

This.

At the end of the day it's a 10year old car, things will be at the time in life where they will need changing due to wear and tear as much as anything, this is the compromise we make if we decide to run an older car.

Thanks again all.
Yeah i know being 10 there will be bits and pieces needing done. Just felt a bit annoyed that its taking so long to fix. I may go elsewhere and sever the tie from it being through family and friends.
I love the car its fab, and bodywork and interior in great condition, a couple of little scratches and thats it. Hopefully once this is sorted it will be fine for a while

Might be worth trying to find out when the timing belt & water pump was last changed.

Thanks again, il get it booked in somewhere else and get them to fix the sensor and ask them to check it all over for me.
Cheers again

Thanks so much for the tip!
Going to another mechanic friday, my friend has used him for years and reviews are great. He said hel sort the sensor and five the car a good check over for me and let me know if he thinks theres anything looking bad.

I was told buying it by my brother in law it was a chain and thats a good reason to buy. But he talked s#*t as its a belt as i have a 1.4.
He who claims to know so much thought it was a 1.2

Remember the OP changed what engine he had from 1.4 to 1.2 - so no belt, chain.

Oh bother, and changed back again!

That 1.4 16v 80PS engine, while being noisy and not very "nice" to drive, is probably the most reliable of the two.

The front Lambda sensor failing is normal as they get older, I would ALWAYS fit a genuine item ie, either bought from VAG dealer or same thing from the sensor's maker, ie NGK but branded as NTK.

It seems that saving a small amount of money buyer cheaper makes will cost you in the long run - it shouldn't but it does!
