hi all
iv just got home with my altea 2.0 (140) and id have to say im impressed! :D cheers for all the buying advice it came in handy. managed to knock the dealer down to a cracking price. but anyway
iv got it home and put some diesel injector cleaner in the tank along with some bp ultimate, that should help clean the injectors out ;)

and now im asking what next?

im not after a remap or power upgrade as im happy with the way it is, what im after is some practical mods..........things that will help the engine or things that are going to keep it reliable for the next 5 years ........
for example i stumbled upon a thread about installing an oil catch tank to stop excess oil vapor entering the intake, but havent managed to find it again. is there a detailed how to?
iv also read somewhere that the pipe work from the air box to the turbo goes all over the place, so if this is true wouldnt it be better to get rid of any excess pipe for a more direct rout?
also is there a workshop manual out there somewhere?

cheers. .Paul.

Best thing for the engine is regular oil changes with good quality oil (not cheap, only just good enough castrol etc., a quality oil like Mobil 1 ESP), fuel filter change every 40k miles, air filter every 30k or so, and stick with BP or Total fuel (I find they give the best fuel economy).

Just fitted a black debadged grill on my tdi sport from ebay to get rid of the chrome front grill and badge . Gonna debadge the chrome altea from the tailgate and paint the big chrome seat boot handle black to ! I hate chrome on a car but just my opinion lol . Also got rid of the foot tall roof ariel and fitted a stuby honda fr-v one ! Next will be fr wheels

Well I sort of like chrome but in moderation! So I'm thinking chrome handles, a chrome strip on the bottom of the windows, chrome number plate surround and a chrome aerial, but that's it lol my car is that dark metallic grey but on the logbook it sais black.

Yeah iv seen them but I'm not too sure as there imported. Last time I payed for something abroad on ebay it didn't turn up and i had to jump through hoops to get my money back .........took the Mick bigtime. There is a set on there that don't say if there in the UK or not but estimated delivery is 2 weeks which makes me think there imported too. If I can't find any in the UK then I might look into chrome vinyl wrap.
Cheers for the link though :)

upgrade front brakes to 312 or 345 brembos
Replace crap seat speakers -see thread at top.
Make sure youre egr is clear of crud.
Make sure all the turbo/inlet pipes are properly clipped home & clips/lugs not worn and seals in good nick.

Cheers crispdust I might look into a brake disk upgrade later on in the year as funds are low at the min but I'm off next week so hopefully this will give me chance to jack the car up and give it a good going over. Is there any specific tools / adaptors I'd need? I noticed the air filter cover has star bolt heads so I need to get myself a set.
I know of somewhere in Derbyshire that do a egr clean for about 20 quid so il take it there after iv had a look under the hood , oh one last thing I have a 2006 has it got a dpf? I haven't had chance to look.

£20 for egr clean? I doubt they do it properly then. It has to be removed from car to clean fully. Bit faffy/time consuming as allen bolts not easy to get to even though at front of engine.
312 upgrade is easy - new discs, new caliper brackets. Its the same caliper/pads, just moved out a touch by bracket :)
345 invovles replacement everything - discs, brembo calipers and brackets, new hydraulic hose and pads and rear disc plate. If you can get used from R32 or S3 then worthwhile doing. (need 17" wheels minimum, ideally 18" though...)

Well I'm happy with the brakes at the mo so it's not on my to do list, ........yet.... As to the egr, they take it off strip it down and soak in a special cleaning fluid in one of them vibrating contraptions, then inspect, clean/ rebuild and fit back on the car, it's a new toy at the moment so there doing it on the cheep.
