What size steel wheel will fit over the brakes on a 2007 ibiza fr tdi?!!
As iv ben thinking about 14" ones as they seem popular
Wanting to know for sorting out some snow tyres asap.

Current tyres are 205/40 r17.

So which wheels will fit with what tyre size?

If your brake disc diameter is same as the 1.4 16V then 185/65 X 14 if the brakes are slightly bigger then 195/55 X 15 - you are right to try to get down to 14" as the narrow tyres will grip better in the snow and ice - but maybe you have worked that out already!

Maybe trust what "mytyres" quote for steelies with winter tyres.

FR's have 288mm Discs.

When i was researching brakes and stuff i think i recall reading that the smallest you can get on an FR is 16"

If this is the case you'd need 205/45/16 for speedo to read correctly, although narrower tyres are better insnow.

Ahaaaah i see, yea i was going to go for some fairly skinny ones yes but also didnt want to end up with such a big sidewall of the tyre on the car with it being a heavy diesel it had made me wonder. I'l be having a look for some 16" steel wheels then

I think that you really need to find out what your front disc size is, I've got a V6 2.8 Passat and it only has 288mm front discs. Certainly 288 will need 15", depending on the callipers used maybe even 16" - but that should only be so if you have AP front callipers, with the FS111 callipers, I'd think that any 15" steels would be okay. Phone your local Seat dealer and ask what steels they advise for winter use.

Like you got a full alloy spare! my 2007 FR TDI has only a steelie :(

Its 16" 205/45 but I think it must be a narrower wheel as the tyre balloons out more than the standard ones

I think steelies look pretty cool :D

So will 16" steels fit over the APs? Might see if I can get hold of some to try...

So we think some 6 spoke 16" alloys would fit over the standard FR brakes then?

Would putting 195/45r16 be too different to the standard 205/40r17. difference in revolutions per mile would be only 20... is this enough to cause major disturbance in abs sensors etc etc?

Hey,

I just bought some steelies that were on a Golf, and they clear the callipers (just). I would advise getting 195/55/15 tho, the 195/65/15 is damn close to the arches under full lock.

I've not run on the wheels, but a wee test drive and there doesnt seem to be any rubbing

I also want to buy some A3 195/65/15, but am not sure I can fit them in my 58 Ibiza Ecomotive. Have you tested yours ? Was it ok ?
Thank you

I have 15" Audi Pepperpots on my 2005 Ibiza FR TDI and they fit no problem over the brakes, plus they are very light.

Prices for tyres seem to get disproportionately expensive for 16" and above. Go for 15s if you can.

Thank you for your input. what tyres do you have on your 15" ? 195/65 ? Thanks

Thread from the dead, but I looked into this and just replaced the tyres on my fr alloys. set of 4 decent winter tyres (Nexen winguard sport) for £230 delivered. They are awesome too. Had a load of snow today, and while everyone else (and I include 4x4's) span their wheels up every hill, I just chugged along without a care in the world, even when following in someone elses polished smooth tracks!

Well, the situation isn't "pukka" on the tyres. I've fitted the 195/50/15 Cooper Weathermasters I ran for one winter on my Fiesta. They seem to be holding up OK despite them not being the correct load rating.

I have winters on my Altea too and have nearly been beaten this time by very slushy snow with ice underneath on our road. Still got up though!
