Just whack on one of the Ministry of Sound's "Addicted to Bass" albums... that will give your sub a test! Or the Puretone tune "Addicted to Bass" will get it rumbling...

Hi all,
Been enjoying reading this thread.
I have a question. I am about to build a sub enclosure for my Toledo...
I mainly Listen to DnB, Jungle, Techno, Hardcore, Breakcore, Dub, dubstep and Rock/Metal, but the question is do i build a ported or sealed box.
What would sound best with these musical genres. And what sub set ups do you have?
Cheers.
Rather than musical genre I think it's more about personal preference of sound.
I had my Alpine R Type 12 in a smallish sealed sub enclosure as whilst I like bass I want it to be hard, crisp and close to the kind of sound you'd get from a home audio sub.
A friend of mine had twin JL Audio subs in a ported box, (with twin mono amps to drive it properly), and it was what I call 'gangster' bass. The sort of bass that makes the car panels vibrate!
His had a deeper bass overall, no question at all, no if you want it gut wrenching go for ported.
btw for you hiphop followers, if you want a track that stresses high frequency bass and low frequency bass, get a copy of Ludacris - How low can you go. it starts at high pitched bass and fades to mid range, and drops right low to the ball shaking bass.
another track based on shaking your heart is Young Jeezy - White girl. it has a subsonic bassline.
I'm listening to the "Life after Death" album in my Leon at the moment, EVERY track is classic.
It's just a pity these very talented artists had to die representing their corner!
starts off the d&b with Ebony Dubsters - Ra then mixes into hardcore techno tunes. I was in that crowd 2009 & i was there last week for tranzmission 2010 lol
