No, it stays, ive ran it idle for 10 mins and it sounds awful.

Changed the oil and filter, think it's a mechnical problem!!!! WHY ME!!!

you really shouldn't have driven through one deep puddle, let alone two...this goes for any car not just a 1.8T

alas its too late now so no point dwelling on it.

it almost sounds like a coilpack is out and its running on 3, initial thoughts are tappets or valves but i wonder if it could be the turbo? where does the sound originate from? have you driven it since and does it boost properly?

My old bravo sounded like that when the ht leads were finished, worth trying to change the coil packs mate. I feel for you. Hope you get it all sorted

Not coils packs, checked them all.

The sound originates directly to the left of the oil cap (below/or inside?) Not driven it as the sound is scaring me out of it.

Ah ok, yeh i wouldnt drive it at all. You tired calling the AA or RAC is your a member? Cant hurt them having a look at it. Prob wouldnt be able to fix it but they could diagnose it!

It's not coils, tried all four, it actually fire's ok.

Nice to know you guy's genuinly care, good to share my pain think it's gonna be a garage job, not confident enough to investigate further.. rocker cover off etc..
