Got to agreee with the habndling on the Mk1 focus, drove a lowly diesel one and it'll go donw a twisty road a some rate. Best thing to do is drive an astra at speed then get back in the Seat, then you'll realise that the handling is actually pretty tidy compared to the (quite simply awful) vauxhall.

Yep... as commented previously. The standard handling of the TDI 130 sport is not really up to much (IMHO). Only "real" answer, is replacement springs and shocks and even then, you can only improve it so far. Though a bit of work will make a BIG noticeable difference.

SEAT used to do a half decent kit (as fitted to my car), but long since discontinued (I believe). Though there are plenty of options.

if your getting the back end out unintentionally on a FWD car, you need to learn how to drive it properly

learn the principles of lift off oversteer

ive had back end step out loads of times before when all tyres were the same and controlled it fine. just seemed with the change in tyre tread made it very difficult. admittedly the conditions were damp (which results in a worse surface often then totally wet) but i felt the rear step out on lift off so steered immediately into the skid yet still continued to rotate. 3 crashes on the same roundabout within a 4 hour period. director of company i work for tried to find out about possible diesel spillage or similar to no avail.

i can drive! can drive well!(as we all think we can) but it didnt react as normal.

also anyone noticed who when you accelerate hard and cause wheel spin with GYF1's the tyres 'juda' and almost bang to find grip. (only apllies to us non Traction Control boys)

to be honest I have to say the ibiza is not a good handling car by a long shot, It can be and I can see the potential it has. But its just really not the best for handling well my 2 havnt been dont know about higher spec suspension, after driving few focus, a few fiestas, and even the clio, for a small hatch it does not handle well at all. Infact recently its been really winding me up to the point im considering selling it.

Judder

The tyre judder is something that seems to be an occasional issue with the ibiza. My own FR petrol will do it - seems to be on that limit between grip and slip; noticed most when pulling out of a junction fairly quickly - if you switch off the tc and light the tyres up it can still do it (but that's just a cack handed way to drive).

I've got a set of Michelin HX Pilots on my own car (sson to be chnged cos they are nearing the limit), my mates does the same thing and his is the facelifted model with 17" rims - bizarre!

...and another thing, had the back of mine step out the other morning on the way to work, was on a back road and it felt like diesel on the surface - just gave it a blip of right foot and threw the lock at it and got away with it - thought it was the limitation of the chassis but the guy behind in an impreza had a similar head shake on the way through. Any quicker and it would have been an off I suspect; think I was just lucky this time.

I had a looks on the web for this and the one Eibach make. The only whiteline one I can find is listed as Ibiza 94-01 while mine is an 05 model - how easy is it to fit? I guess I'm asking if there much else to take apart and if any special tools are needed.

Cheers

Cheers for that - appreciate the fitting guide :D Need to shell out for new rubber first but maybe in about a month I'll have a few quid spare for a roll bar.

Thanks again
