Wheel hop issues

Hello,

Looking at reducing my wheel hop. I've been told 3 things make the difference:

1) dogbone insert (I had one, then the bolt which holds the gearbox to the mount snapped and I had to have a full gearbox replacement) so I am reluctant to fitting another one. ~£40

2) a super pro anti lift kit ~ £130? Is this right? Saw it on awesome

3) a VWR gearbox mount, lower and upper engine mount. ~~£900

4) due new front shoes soon. Will be fitting Michelin PS4's of the 235/35/19 variety.

Prices not including labour...I know the insert is a 5 minute job. What's the labour like on the other parts and will they void my warranty? I'm guessing the mounts will, but not sure about the WALK kit...

Also, I'm concerned that the vibration in the cabin will be too much for a daily driver...what are your thoughts? Also thinking about selling up and moving to a 4wd car haha.

Anyone with any experience on these issues?

Thanks.

I have no experience of 1, 2 or 3 but I had a new set of front tyres yesterday and wow, what a difference! The loathsome Bridgestones needed to go (after 12K miles), replaced them with Avon ZZ5s after reading good reports - paid £177 for 2 through cartyres.com, fitted by local Halfords Autocentre. The difference is remarkable, early days but absolutely no traction issues at all so far. So if you need tyres anyway why not try them first and see if you still need to do the other work too.
It amazes me/p*sses me off [:@] that Seat thought it was a god idea to put Bridgestones on the Cupra 280 as original equipment, surely if they had tried them vs. a number of other tyres they would have realised that they were simply not up to the job. New 290 is due in July and I've told the dealer that it had better come with the Contis on it or else....

I found that engine mounts on my stage 2+ mk2 Cupra eliminated wheel hop. Cabin vibration was obviously different to stock but not too bad really, definitely fine for every day. Felt sharper on turn in too :D

Yep had terrible wheel hop with the Bridgestone S001 tyres fitted from new on my 184 FR TDI. And don't get me started with the traction from the get go. Worse if you have the DSG as you have no control over the biting point and power. Have 4 new Michelin Pillot Sport 4s fitted. Get a slight spin up in sport mode if you plant the power down. But have noticed the ride has improved significantly. No wheel hop.

Where did you get your ps4's from JPOR? I have only been able to find them on camskill, I placed an order and apparently they can't fulfil it because Michelin aren't releasing them to camskill just yet because they still have ps3's in stock and want to get rid of them....ended up buying some PSS instead. where did you order from? Thanks.

Ordered mine through my local SEAT dealership. Thought while my car was in for its first service and I'd get the tyres changed at the same time. Had no issues, ordered a week before and got them fitted. Cost me £121 each though. So may not be the cheapest you can get them for? My local dealership is in Crewe, Cheshire. LC Charles/ SEAT Crewe.

Approx £160 on Blackcircles (PSS) and no wheel hop with two up front, never found a bad review on them when I was researching what tyres to buy.

Experienced drivers will have no problem doing that (and the Bridgestones are not that bad) only a safety issue for new or bad drivers, have always swapped the front pair first and have been doing so for over 30 years with no concerns.

Statistically you would have to not crash and die for 1200 years or so before it is safer than average.
How would you define bad drivers? The ones that have accidents? Either way you won't have to cash up in case a forum member mistakingly classified themselves as a 'good' driver...

Evasive action at high(way) speed will render your car dangerously unstable if your rear tyres have significantly less grip, and ESP can only do so much. All authority on the subject (vehicle chassis engineers, safety experts etc) say so.

I strongly advice to always have the better tyre at the rear. Ideally you rotate your tyres often so they wear evenly, and change all four at the end. Especially on a performance car.

The Bridgestones start off okay, but as they wear they get worse. Especially in the damp/wet. Okay maybe not the worst tyre. Worst I ever had were Dunlop Sports, which were lethal, especially in the wet and wouldn't grip.
Had Bridgestones on other marques, such as a Subaru Impreza STI and they were known for tram lining. I.e would pull the car with the camber of the road. Had noticed before I swapped tyres that the LEON would have a slight pulling sensation to the left. Since having the PS4s, have not noticed this. Even though the garage had checked the tracking, and found no issues.
As for only having 2 new tyres. Yes I have done this in the past as the car is front wheel drive, so makes sense to do this. As for 4 wheel drive cars, it's best to get all 4 changed to help with grip, and also to protect the the diff.
I went with 4 new tyres as I found even in the rears, the Bridgestones squirmed around corners and gave a floppy like feel, and again gave no confidence. As they say 'Horses for courses'.

Sounds like are an expert then , funny that older more experienced drivers are the ones with less accidents and the lower insurance premiums, the quickest relates to the Mag tests I have seen. Auto Express have tested the SC 280 DSG twice 16/04/14 and 04/02/15 and both tests returned 0-60 times of 5.5 sec, which is the quickest I have seen. The test of the 5dr 280 manual was only 6.7 on the 24/06/15, not seen a test of the 290 yet (but it is actually the same engine in it anyway)

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres did the trick for me, although the conti's are meant to be good

Contis on mine out of the factory and I have only had wheel hop when I go over something like a white lines or a lose surface.

When my CS5 need changing I want to try CS6 out.

The argument about having good tyres on the rear is a fair one. However on front wheel drive cars the rears don't get touched, on my Ibiza I changed 3 front sets before I event touched the rears. If the rears are getting low then yes I do swap them but if they have a good amount of meat left then I don't bother.

I had rubbish Chinese on the front as its what it came with from the garage (bought secondhand). I have bridgestones on the rear with 4mm tread left. I have super sports on the front now and the difference is night and day. Lots of water on the road today, gave it the beans and i didn't get a traction control light flashing at me. I can't say how happy I am with the super sports.
