Where is the Airbag Control Unit Ibiza MK4

Hi all, i have airbag warning light on dash, advice i have received is to check cabling to/fro airbag control unit. i've checked the vag com code out and RossTech wiki seems to concur to check wiring.

Control Module Part Number: 6Q0 909 605 S
Component and/or Version: 06 AIRBAG VW5 02 0007
Software Coding: 22838
Work Shop Code: WSC 06441
1 Fault Found:
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error

the light lit about 5 mths after i bought the car (used) and garage cleared the light under warranty and said it was the wiring as it gets pulled by seats back and forth, also as mines 2 door the passenger seat slides forward when peeps get in the back. light was out for bout 4yrs but has now come back and as it's now an MOT failure i wanna fix it. i know i can disable the nagging old bags with vagcom but'd like to try fix rather than ignore.
now, simple question, where the hell is the controller unit located?? ok, i read in threads the airbag ecu is located on the transmission tunnel, forward of the gear lever, under the heater unit, so i had the fake leather gear stick surround up and pulled out the foam surrounding the linkage, had a look but can't see anything in there, any further forwards would be under the ashtray moulding which i can't see how it comes out. do they mean in the centre console at the bottom, under or above the climate control unit? or actually within the mouldings surrounding the transmission tunnel anyone with any info or ideally a few photo's would be good and appreciated. thanks in advance

all i wanna do is get to the control unit.

i believe its the connection under the seat i had the same fault so i unplugged it plugged it in again then erased the fault and ive not had the problem since.
there is a thread some where on here saying about doing away with the connection under the seat and just soldering the join up and obviously covering the solder with heatshrink.
i was going to do the above but being as the problem was sorted as easy as it was i decided not too.

Thanks Al, yeah, i seen that thread about soldering, then again i think i read just about every thread here on airbags and controller, did you have to take the seats out to get to the plugs? i think i can feel them but i suppose there is a squeezy release on the plug to get them out but without actually seeing it i didn't want to pull too hard. i can see the big black coil things with the spring inside, i take it these are tensioners of some sort, and i believe i can feel a plug actually connecting into to underneath of the seat, am i right?

anyone any info on the controller location?

anyone any info on the controller location?

i did take the seat out to sort the issue as like you i could feel the connection but couldnt work out how it come apart with just touch alone.
i cannot really remember how it all looked under there but i do remember the simple process of doing the job.

Removal

- Remove the center console
- Reach under the fascia and press in the locking catch and disconnect the wiring
- Remove the bolts (three in total)

All possible with dash in place, fiddly but not hard.

well i thought i'd update those interested. firstly... my god what a nightmare to get to the controller unit. my hands beaten, brused and little cuts all over them lol. i downloaded Elsawin with the seat database, what a priceless peace of software. basically it's the SEAT mechanics guide which the main dealers use, punch in a subject/component, search and it brings it up with diagrams and step by step instructions, if you have to take this off to get to that, it tells you and gives you a link to get the other piece off. what a location to put a part which is prone to failure, such a tight squeeze, then you have the carpets and aircon distrubuter box over the top. the part is screaming not to be removed.

when i tried disabling the airbags with vagcom the light flashed 7 times and then stayed on, other posts here state it'll flash about 12 times then go off, also i would rather fix the issue rather than bodge it! so this wasn't the answer.

managed to get the plugs out the seat, quite easy once you know how the plug is released. cleaned the contacts and reconnected, cleared the codes, same error.

i got the controller out popped round the corner to a garage, one guy initially said he may be able to reprogram it, after discussing further with the guy he wasn't so sure and recommended replacing the controller, by the time he diags it and recodes it i'm looking at 50 quid or so and as they're on ebay for around 50 i decided thats what i'll do. i don't see the point paying him to try fix it and then another 50 for another controller when/if he's unsuccessful. apparently the EEPROM Memory Chip's in the controllers are prone for failure/corruption, bit like firmware chips in computer hardware (im in the IT Industry).

well i thank you guy's so far for your assistance. and will update when i get the controller installed and i'll try for some pics of the location of the unit.

hope i'm doing this right... (1st post ! ) - i have same car...TDi130PD - same problem ! - even the same airbag controller module part number - including the '02' which specifies the ID of the crash sensors - AND... the 7 flashes if i disable the airbags - but the light stays on :( - this means it fails the MoT now. I think i 've solved the original crash sensor error - but - you've guessed - still got the dreaded internal memory 65535 fault... - did you manage to fix yours ??? thanks for your time - roger (ps i do have VCDS Lite and have tried one of the cheap ' magic boxes' to clear the fault - no joy... :(
