dont think its so much a pinhole leak.
more the seal for the cap was made by an accountant ie cheaply and can blow the seal causing the coolant to leak out around the seal.

ive not had the problem but think the wifes golf might have it as its sitting slightly lower than it really should be

I pretty sure that's the engine model. The main dealership had a few issues when it came to replacing the Cat as there were 2 170 versions, one of which was rarer than the other. I found that on an old receipt...
All the owners documents refer the the car as a Toledo [170].
I've had another look under the bonnet and all those hoses I mentioned earlier are dry so I assume something must be causing them to get damp and with the expansion tank near them, hopefully 2 + 2 = 4!

Never heard of 2 versions of the 170 engine tbh

If it has leads running over the top of engine it's the AGZ 150, if there are no leads then it is the AQN 20V twin cam engine.

Anyway hope the problems a simple one mate and get sorted soon.

5 red leads? If so, then that isn't mine... I have 5 black leads under the engine cover.

Anyway, booked in to a main dealer to have a look over. When I spoke on the phone they were sure it was a water pump even though I said I could see moisture under the expansion tank!

Everyone cross their fingers as we really can't afford another big bill, if so it may be the end of Toledo experience (I would really hate to see it go, I spent ages trying to get the one I want)...

if they drained the system then just top it back upto the max mark and keep an eye on for the next 2 or 3 days. you got to give it time to settle.

Yeah, they drained the system, I'm wondering if there was some sort of airlock or something and now it has had a chance to settle it's dropped?

The plot thickens, this morning when I went to start the car I could hear fluid glugging and the warning light came on. Checked the level and it's dropped to lower than before I took it to get repaired! SEAT are taking it back in on Monday so fingers crossed it is an airlock. I have checked and I can not find any loss of coolant either under the car or in the passenger compartment.

Do you folk recommend using main dealers or private garages as I'm not seeing much improvement in customer service or quality from the main dealer?

Thanks again to everyone who has given us advise!

Thanks folks. I will be taking it back to the dealership as they cocked it up, but if there are any questionable repairs needing done (they are still going on about the water pump even after they said it was ok) I will go somewhere else.

meltonlad - thanks for the link, there are some garages in Inverness with really good write ups that I would never have even considered using.

Again, many thanks!!!
