which alarm?

can anyone recommend any decent alarms? im looking for the engine start feature...

also considering fitting it myself, what u think ...would it be that difficult?

You have to bypass the immobiliser if you want remote start BTW, which your insurance people might not like.
Also ive fitted a similar system myself and its pretty easy if youve got a haynes... but allow a FULL day to do it

I'd recommend the Clifford 650 with blackjax which I got fitted for £350 and you can add remote start to it if need, but not sure on the price.

ha ur a funny guy, this is the one from "DIY GTI" that i was going to get, i just needed to know how hard it was, if it was too much of a mission then i wouldnt bother ...but if its just one days work then i wouldnt mind giving it a go. where did u do all ur connections from; under the steering wheel or somewhere else?


idealy i would want a clifford and ive been looking into them but if i can get one that does similar for £300 cheaper then thats what ima go with i think.

Youll need access to, behind the passenger glove box/air bag and the drivers glove box, the interior light switch wiring, through the bulkhead into the engine bay for the siren, and that should just about cover it.
its simple to wire, maybe look into getting a battery back up for the siren, just incase.

thanks, uve made me defo want to get one now. ive been reading about bypassing the immobiliser, ima try n find more info about this and then ... ive bought too much universal crap from ebay from when i was 16 to last a life time lol, thanks for the help though. i wanna change the siren and see if i can get someones clifford siren in there insted.

Yeah, the ebay ones aren't as bad as people think. I bought one for my old 1.4 and it worked a treat for the year I had it. And only cost like £35. What car do you have ninja?? Because my old 1.4 was really stock (no electrics, central locking.) I had to firstly install central locking. And also in order to install the alarm I had to install to switches. One in the passenger door and one in the boot. This is because that car only had a switch in the drivers door (turns on your interior light).

Installing both the alarm and central locking wasn't too complicated but did require common sense and a bit of time. (4 hours central locking. 5 hours alarm). THE biggest pain in the ass when installing the alarm was wiring up the indicators, so that they flash when you set the alarm.

Ibiza_95, sorry mate but cant remember, why is the access behind the passenger glovebox/airbag required?? as I'm sure it wasn't

ive got a Treg 1.4s, its got electrics and its got central locking. ill try n post some pics up soon just wanna sort out a few things.

would this transponder work to bypass the immobilliser? or any transponder, or is for other cars?

I've got a 5dr 1.4 Salsa Editon which has no electrics at all, do you think the DIY GTI kits would be ok to fit central locking and an alarm to it?

I've got the Haynes and i've done a fair bit of work on cars before so shouldn't have too much difficulty hopefully.

Any advice and pointers appreciated though!

and ive found some guy in hatfield (that the ebayer from this alarm recommended) and he can fit the alarm for £100. what you think should i give it a bash or just fork out £100. i mean £165 in total aint too bad for a decent alarm, but hmm im still confused on the bypassing of the immobiliser and how to go about with it.
