Personal preference would be brembo every time over EBC stuff, wouldn't touch that stuff with a barge pole going on my own & my mates experiences with there stuff in the past!!

I've used ebc stuff on 3 of my previous cars and never had an issue with it. That's been both discs and pads. Maybe in the past it had a bad rep but nowadays it's more than adequate.

I am running EBC discs and pads on my car and they work perfectly fine. Was some squeeling in the beginning but it seems to have stopped now they have bedded in propperly. Also using the ATE super blue racing fluid.

To be honest, with discs you're going to be fine with any major brand, I've not seen any significant difference between EBC and Brembo. When it comes to pads though there is more at stake, and I'd put Brembo slightly ahead of EBC.

You are remembering to budget for new pads aren't you? Don't put old pads on new discs.

EBC stuff is utter crap!

I know of a guy who was sponsored by EBC in a race series who specifically had to use there stuff in there car. The so called guy thought the EBC yellow stuff was so bad he had to source other pads and paint the metals yellow just to keep the sponsorship without EBC knowing they were using other brake components.

I also used red stuff pads in one of my old car's and they were also horrendous. I ended up changing to OEM parts which significantly improved braking over the EBC stuff.

I'd probably be a bit more specific, EBC pads are utter crap. Their discs are nowhere near as bad as their pad compounds. You're not the first person to suggest EBC can't make brake pads, however the discs themselves are pretty well made.

Personally I've been happy with EBC Greenstuff pads for years, but I am a high mileage old f4rt who wouldn't know a trackday if one came up and slapped me on the face! :)

Whats wrong with OEM discs and pads?

I'm inclined to agree mate.

Unless tracking the car where fade and heat are the enemy, OEM discs & pads should be perfectly adequate for fast road (certainly where a car is stock).

If uprating pads make sure 1. The pads are road legal (eg I believe DS2500 pads aren't technically legal) 2. You are supposed to inform your insurance 3. You uprate your brake fluid 4. You'll probably want to go braided hoses

Just things to consider.

Ok to clear things up. EBC pads are really crap, and EBC discs are...erm...ok I suppose.

The discs are no way an upgrade over standard Brembo discs (eg my car). Even the ultimax will still be regarded as a non upgrade over Brembo.

I have the EBC turbo grooved ONLY because a) I never had the money for the 2 piece badger bill set up, and b) because the only other option I was in the market for ie 'ultimax' had a 6 week wait.

I have the ferodo pads and braided lines all round and my brakes are adequate at best. Was told the turbo grooved are what most LCR owners use....so I bought them. Took ages for the brakes to start bedding in, and even then the pedal was sloppy. So a new re bleed was needed. The pedal is firm now and tbh I can come to a halt quite quick but they are no match for standard Brembos and certain no good for track. Just drivin around town I can just tell there will be immense fade under force etc etc.

For a LCR you buy cheap, you will buy twice. Brakes and tyres are the 2 things never to be skimped on. Mine are temporary tbh.

Sent from my iPhone when I should be working....

Going on mine and my mates experiences with EBC brakes I'd just stay well clear, I had green stuff pads on my old Rover 220gsi and they just chewed the discs up, couple o my mates had green stuff pads and turbo groove discs on there cars and BOTH had issues with the discs cracking and warping (not sure if they had issues with pads too, but seem to recall they had similar to me with overly aggressive pads eating discs!), I knew a chap who tracked an MGZS180 at Combe and had green stuff pads COMPLETELY fail on him (they came away from there metal backing and basically crumbled!!) I know (atleast as far as the ZS180 was concerned) that the o.e pads and discs were Sooo highly regarded that most folks simply stuck with those, or those that did change went for top quality pads - generally with o.e discs (Mintex,Galfer etc)

Never quite understood why you'd add braided lines to cars that don't get tracked though as you get so little extra "feel" from them, and if you're cooking o.e brakes on the road then there either really really crap or your a nut case!

Get yourself to the dealer for some genuine brakes, fit and forget. Like Matt says, if you think OEM brakes are not good enough for road use, then you must have a death wish.

I have to admit my ebc discs and pads are very good.

I had green stuff pads with brembo max discs on the front of my 106gti and it stopped on its nose without any fade.

I had yellow stuff pads and turbo grooved discs all round on my R32 golf and again they were superb and the golf was a heavy brute.

I had red stuff pads with brembo discs on my Evo 8 and they were the only ones that didn't work so well. They faded after a few hard stops and squeaked like a bitch.

I had ebc eliptically grooved discs with ds2500 pads on the LCR and I've now changed them to turbo grooved discs with pagid pads and can honestly say there's no difference that I've felt.
