Im gonna buy a catch can in the near future.
Was just wondering which ones everyone had gone for, they all look like they do the same job really.
Are there any to avoid or go for ? Ive been looking at the ebay ones, looks like i can get one for around £40.
I think ive got the idea of how it all goes on just wanted to see what u guys recomend or have tried.

Just had a look at them and they look like a good bit of kit.
The only thing that puts me off them is that it is a little to OEM! if that is possible.
I was wanting one that looked a bit special when you open the bonnet but without looking too OTT if you get what i mean?

Thinking go piano black on that and the battery cover and it'll look OEM+
 
Its left a nice little damp stain on my plastic sump guard, luckily where ive placed it there is a nice hole so it just goes straight out :D.

at first i had it attatched to the front of the engine bay where the bonnet catch is, you could see a light smoke (like steam) coming out of the bonnet when its cold outside aha.

You could just extend the breather pipe down to the ground and not use a tank at all if you wanted as said above:rolleyes:
It doesnt really matter.
All the tank does is collect all the oily **** that would otherwise be getting blown inside all your inlet piping.
You can come back out of the catch tank and go back into your inlet if you wanted but then all you are doing is taking some of the oily mess out and letting some through unless you get one of the "pro-vent" ones, they look like they have a proper filter.
Its hard to answer your questions without explaning everything about catch tanks and how they are plumbed in :whistle:
 
you guys who have these catch cans notice less black smoke at all when acclerating?
 
The oil catch can won't affect the smoke on acceleration, which is soot, part-burned fuel from transient overfuelling.

Disabling the EGR should reduce this, as it is one of the known side-effects of EGR function - reduced NOx, but increased soot (and decreased engine efficiency)
 
I do believe there are quite a few posts about them on UKMKIVs.

I did have one with the part number and a supplier on. Not sure how valid the contact may be now though.

With no tank your putting all your oil and shite straight on to the road so NOT a bright idea. It could also drip onto your under try then under your tyres when cornering one day...
 
I made my own tank from some 3" exhaust and simple end plates with aproppriate adaptors added so no need for reducers etc.

Mock up of the unit painted, currently getting welded by a work mate, it has been tidied up a bit more since these pictures and the end plates fit inside the pipe and a re tight to be welded up. Drain and sight guage added to the unit along with a baffle inside to prevent blow back of the crap in there i.e. mixing it up into a foam maybe.....
