Wore out my P zeros on the FR, decided to get some different tyres with rim protectors... bought 2 new dunlop SP9000s....Shocking tyres in the wet, understeers & wont put any power down.

No where near as good as the P zeros in the dry either, it understeers more, and grapples for grip more!!

I was thinking going for Conti sport contacts, which were on my old cupra tdi.

Any thoughts??

Near Reevo :)
I'm going to guess GSD3's but i don't know who's using them on here yet, so you might have to be the tester for us all ;)

I've just had a set of Michelin Pilots on mine (225/45/R17) and they have fantastic grip in this current wet weather.:D

BUT very noisey

Yep, but can still get wheel spin, 1st 2nd and 3rd. Hate to think what other tyres do in the wet then!

Different tyres give different results depending on their size.

just brought some falken FK-452 from camskill.co.uk. very slick service from the company and at a very good price. tyres were recommended on this forum by a post i made in the mk 1 section a couple of days ago.
post is called 'tyres needed.........' if you fancy reading!
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=128372
although i have only just had the tyres fitted this morning they seem pretty good, and the chap that fitted them said they were a good tyre and this was shown by how few ballencing weights were needed on the tyres, which is good!
i paid £279.20 for four tyres delivered next day delivery, and a further £40 for fitting. pretty good value i think! This was for tyre size 225/45/R17 94Y. And for some unknown reason the tyres are actually cheaper if you order them for 18" rims!
anyway i would curtainly recommend you at least consider these tyres.
hope this helps.

Im a fan of the F1 GSD3's and have put them on many cars.. My last car was a MkV Gti and for some reason on that they were very noisy, sounded a bit like a wheel bearing going on some surfaces.

Not a great deal of help I know, but I presume its a similar chassis?

I am looking to replace my Pzero's as its the kerbing getting me, nearside is fooked so looking for something thats good in all conditions but has protection for the alloys, looked at verdestein @ GTi Internat and they looked ok but the rim protector didn't look that good.
silly question maybe but can we put a bigger tyre on i.e as not as low a profile?

I fitted Falken FK452's when I got my 18's, paid £305.50 fitted from tyretraders.com. Can't comment on wear yet but I have no complaints about grip; they do have a rim protector but it's not that big, so I try and stay well away from the kerbs; so far so good:D

Mine's a company car so i didn't really have the option to choose what tyres i wanted when i took it in.... Needed replacing after around 20k.

I did take the car however to my mate at Kwik-fit who said he'd tell the Lease company they were out of stock of cheap tyres so ther Dude sorted me out with some Bridgestone Potenza's and i must say when they warm up they're amazing!

Think they retail a couple of hundred a peice!

Hi

How is the wear on your Michelins as I was thinking of replacing my Dunlops when required?

no 1 choice - Toyo Proxes T1R
look up web reviews, Fantastic grip, great in the wet

if you want the ultimate go for Toyo Proxes R888 trackday tyre but wear is crippling

I enquired with autoexpress about whether they had done a tyre test for the larger wheels i.e 17's & 18's.

They got back to me and said their sister magazine Evo had just carried out a tyre test on 225 / 45 r17's and is due to be published soon (guessing it will be the October/November addition as the current addition is September). - Might be worth waiting and seeing what their results are.

my vote for the Goodyear eagle GSD3's. Had them on for a while, better grip than the P-Zero rosso's
