I have a 68 plate Ateca Excellence 1.4 tsi DSG. I am looking to replace the 215/50 R18 tyres. Depending on which site I look at they give me either V or W speed rating, bearing in mind the spec gives a top speed for the Ateca of 128mph and V rating is 149mph and W rating is 168mph would it be ok to put on V rated tyres. Any advice would be appreciated, many thanks.

Well you won't be doing those speeds. I tend to be guided by what Protyres says based on the registration. Is it that those sites based on registration don't know which size of wheel is actually fitted. Some some give you a choice others don't. I see most on that size are W in your fitting.

I would steer on the quality rating rather than V or W.

This site is quite good.

People have their own personal pet hates of some tyre brands. Mileage and wear you might rate higher than others. I use to use Falken on my old Altea since I was doing high mileage and on price they were good all things being equal. 4Drive opted for all season now different brand, Michelin. If you were getting thru a lot of them you would consider a cheaper brand. My old criteria. Falken ones were really Dunlop design. Quite a few Ateca 2WD got these... respectable make.

I wasn't upset with my original Bridgestone on the Ateca, diesel R19 thou. Seat fitted particular types to particular models. Tyre choice was much more limited in the early days of the Ateca and other VAG brands at that time. Now opened up.

Tell, many thanks for tasking the time to reply. The Bridgestone's have been ok, i was really looking for something with a lower dB rating but there is probably a pay off against either the economy or wet grip rating. I will have a look at the site you left the link for.

Thanks again(y)
