what if your coasting tho at say 60mph and you pressed the clutch down? would it still make the noise?

that would make the noise dissapear, whilever im not on revs it isnt there.

servicing it tonight, weather dependant, will have a look around underneath, at the tip to turbo connection etc, gearbox, driveshafts.... hopefully thatl shed some light on it.:help:

Im having almost the same whine you are on about, only difference i can tell is that i can slightly hear mine when reving at a standstill.

Sound almost like a super charger. i've already changed my aux belt tensioner as that was vibrating a bit but that didnt solve it. Im looking at the alternator pulley next but im not sure what to listen out for with the long screwdriver trick any ideas?

discovered today, only happens when boosting and only at 3k revs and over.. if i rev slowly above 3k then no whining, rev hard then whining above 3k revs.

on a plus point, new maf, cleaned throttle body fully last night, throttle body realign... car runs sweet as a nut, even sound like a rally slag now with the whine and n249 chatt.

another idea, maybe a bust piston in the forge 006....

would this cause a whine on boost?

dont notice it sticking so much, just a bit of a chatt when recirculating, put this down to the n249 bypass.

is this a possibility.

gonna get a service kit anyway and see if that helps.

now i seem to have a little boost issue, high speed on motorway, 6th gear... boost hitting 1400is mbar, dropping to 1200 ish, back upto 1400 and so on.... not holding boost in top gear, does when really flooring it but surges upto that point.

whistling, whining still present, if not getting louder..

wtf is going on??

well it isnt running lean afaik.... mpg lower if anything...

gonna check tip for splits, lambdas etc etc next..

maybe a dodgy n75, but im sure this wouldnt cause a whining.

Sorry to open up an old thread but I have this exact issue. Whines on acceleration in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, bit fine in the higher gears. If I accelerate in third and come off the power it whines (only at higher revs though), but when I depress the clutch it goes away. It's worst in first and second. Any ideas?

Did you get this sorted? My gearbox was doing the same, I actually thought it was a driveshaft whine to begin with, but it was the gearbox bearings. I had a bearing repair done and the whine has gone. My gearbox did 181000.
I had various quotes, mostly £1200, but I eventually got it done for £600 in the end.
