• Hey Guest💡👉 We have just launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
I've had this for over 2 years, my fluid is fine too, but doesn't seem to be getting worse so just living with it.

maybe try a new auxillary belt. a genuine one. easy to do yourself. get a 15mm spanner and pull the tensioner allowing you to remove the belt then fit the new one. try power steering fluid. if not maybe pump or belt tensioner.

Ye ill try that i have also noticed that my mpg is not going up as it used to and mr driving is the same. vag did say fuel mixture to rich but i think that was down to the fault i had with the engine temp sensor

well its been a while now and its still doing it, seems exactly the same so im going to try the belt the wekkend. where can i get a belt from?

Ive got a 2004 Cupra R and i have a similar issue, only when i turn left, i get a very obvious rubbing sound coming from the drivers front wheel area. i took it to SEAT and they didn't know what it was, and could only think it COULD be the steering rack, but since then i haven't got it checked by anyone else. Any suggestions would be fantastic, because it sounds quite serious but it hasn't really got any worse.

As mentioned, the steering fluids and everything are fine, there are no leaks or puddles anywhere, tyres are fine, tracking is fine.

mines been doing it to. topped up the fluid to the brim and its been alot better.wear was adviced on the s-rack on mot last year, but now due again . going in on weds so ill ask the question.

Hey,

Just had a crazy thought, my driveway slopes down in front of my house, and every time i park the car, its always facing towards the house, with the weight of the car mostly resting on the drivers front wheel. Could it be something to do with that?

As i don’t have a flat driveway i cant park it so the weight is even on all four wheels.

However, I have another MK1 SEAT Leon on the driveway that always faces down the drive, more so than my Cupra R, and that doesn't have any problems...

I don't know, just putting it out there, i can't think of what it could be. i don’t drive it that much so when i do its very annoying.

I did just take it to a power steering specialist in Blackheath, and although they couldn't take a detailed look at the time, the engineer's were out; one of the guys had a play with the steering and assured me that in his opinion, there is nothing wrong with my power steering pump, or rack. Of course my noise is only noticeable when moving round corners, but that’s slightly better news,

Meh...on with the investigation.

Mine does it too!!! Has done for 12 to 14 months like everyone else it's not getting any worse. always at slow speed sharp left turns coming in and out of car parks etc Asked before at the dealer said nothing was wrong, but again its really annoying !!!!

Just thought i would update, nothing new, but mine's still making a metal grinding noise, almost like textured metal brushing against metal. it sounds so much like a really rusty patch on the disc brake rubbing against the pads, but it sounds more loose, if you know what i mean. Anyway, discovered that its defiantly coming from both front wheel.

Just checked out my SEAT dealer, my car went in recently for a full service and new belts, they told me that they checked th CV joint as a procedure and if anything were untoward, they would've told me or fixed it.

So at the mo, it looks like it MIGHT not be the CV joint. however, i might book it in for them to take a look a little deeper and make sure everything's all greased up. i would do it myself, but i dont have the tools or space to do it....plus its my car, if i mess it up i'll have to fix it, if they mess it up, they'll have to fix it...and for free :D

I have the same problem, doing anything from 40mph-70+mph it makes that noise, when I slightly turn right or go round a right hander,it has just had it's 80,000 miles service, with raymonds garage,in west Wales,p.a.s. Fluid level full,I wonder could a wheel bearing or like James walker said a cv joint? (Raymonds is the local SEAT dealer in west Wales)

mine does it and when on full lock left or right , it does it on mine because its lowered and on 17" alloys and rubs slightly on the wheel arch liner. no major biggie. some of you may be having this. it does make a scraping droning noise.
