I've got a really annoying whistling noise noticeable around 20-40 mph in my FR TSI DSG. It's definitely not mechanical, at first I thought it was tyre noise but now i'm not so sure. Sounds a bit like someone blowing over the rim of a bottle - it's quite high pitched. Any ideas? It's driving me mad!!!

I've been getting something similar to this, the sound only occurred whilst coasting and sometimes idling along with rough running and turned out to be a failing dual mass flywheel.

Oh dear that sounds expensive. This seem to only be affected by road speed, changing gear has no effect so would that rule the fly wheel out??

Does the whistling noise come from your passenger side front blower? i had a whistling noise come from the passenger blower on my 1.9TDI, after a few weeks of the it warning light came on dashboard saying "Emissions Workshop", took it to garage and after they plugged it in came up saying Air Mass Meter problems, after investigating further turned out the clip holding my boost pipe had snapped so the pipe was just hanging there, hence why the turbo was sucking in air from all over the place.

the sound on mine is under the front in the middle, a mate of mine got it up in the air and said its coming from the bell housing and suspected the dmf there is a code stored but it wont give me the description for it and yes its very expensive could up to £1000 for me.

Just been out for a blip trying to pin it down. Seems to peak at about 30mph sounds like the cabin is kinda resonating - could be the roof? Changing gear or dropping into neutral makes no difference. Tried opening and closing all windows, doesn't really make a difference. Checked tyre pressures they're all correct. It's really bugging me now!

Unfortunately not. I've only had it a couple of weeks. Bought privately so I'll be seriously gutted if it's summat bad :eek:S

Only when driving. It's totally speed dependent - starts around 20mph, seems worse at around 30 mph, goes away or other stuff becomes louder at around 40mph.

Could try looking at door rubbers and see if that's letting in air, is it quieter with the windows closed

Does it change on different road surfaces? I know its s long shot but check the inside edge of the rear tyres for odd wear

I had exact same issue and only just bought my car privately recently as well,I changed my front 2 tyres (they needed changing anyways) and that made a difference, so I suspected it was the actual tyre passenger side
