White cars are rubbish for detailing :(

Started my big detail last week when it was sunny, spent a while on the bonnet as I had limited time and it has rained since and it looks no different to when I started. I washed, clayed, dried, machine polished, sealed and 2 coats of wax. It was quite a sunny day so it looked very good but just the exact same as any other panel on the car. I know it's protecting the paint but it feels like a waste of time.

Anybody have any tips for getting the best shine out of a white car? Don't know what else I can do.

+1 to this white diamond is great as is the ex-p...in terms of getting a good finish, it's all in the preparation, try again but this time start machining with a heavy cut, then a medium cut, then a finishing compound, this will give you the best finish :)

And also what kind of technique are u using when machine polishing? that can have a factor too

Using a range of menzerna polishes. Only used a medium cut as at the time it looked as of the swirls were gone. Wasn't till a few days after I noticed them under the sunlight.
Then the mark V ip100 poly shine sealant. Came highly reccomended from the guy at rubbish boys.
Then a couple of layers of supernatural polish.
All applied by machine.

When polishing I'm spreading at a slow speed then moving to a higher speed and going up and down and then side to side to cover it a few times. Is that what you mean?

Any other time I've done it I've been really pleased but not this time. Granted I've only done the bonnet though.

Maybe try as said above, a heavier cut compound on a polishing pad, spread on speed 1, then work it in the same way you have already until the compound starts to go clear in appearance, do this at speed 5 (on a DA machine) then move back down to speed 1 for another couple of passes.

After this use a light cut compound on a polishing pad and do the same technique.

After this use a glaze product (DJ Lime Prime, Megs #80 or CG's EZ Creme Glaze), spread on speed 1, work for 4-6 passes on speed 4 then buff off. A 2nd application will add gloss and depth.

Then skip the sealant and wax - 2 layers by hand. I dont like applying wax by machine as i think it overworks the wax... it doesnt help apply thinner layers either imo if you apply it properly with decent applicator pads.

My Leon is Nayara blue which is pretty light in shade, its quite difficult to get a nice glossy finish on to be honest, like silver so sacrificing the sealants for glazes helps. The other option is to go for a sharp, sterile finish using sealants like Zaino etc.

Left this reply in leon forum, I have candy white and machine polish etc.The difficulty is spotting the swirls without a light their is a make your own swirl spotting light thread on detailing world worth a look, as for getting a shine I love candy white as if you get it right it will glow.

Dura Gloss shampoo if you can get it or Autosmart DUET ,Clay Bilt Hamber water lubricated also TARDIS Tar Remover

One of the best is Werkstat Acrylic Kit (Google) around £60.00 for kit easy to use cleans shines and protects and very good.

At the moment I am using Autoglym Super Resin Polish (new formula) topped with Blacklight and V7. Looks well glassy. All available on line.

I have piles of wax to choose from but have gone back to the synthectic products as some waxs put a warm glow on the white albeit Vics concours wax is one of my favourites as is Harly Wax one of the cheapest but is awesome and a clear wax also.

Thanks for replies. Will try going for a deeper cut and working up to a lighter one and see if that helps initially. Might invest in that white diamond glaze too. I like the products I have and have tried a few to get to them but just wasn't as impressed with the finish this year.

Think this picture is from when I'd just done it before last years national meet

And one at the national meet. That was cracking weather that day so it brought it out well.
