The only petrol VAG car I'm aware of the has a fuel filter change schedule is the 2003> Audi RS6. Pretty much everything else is 'fitted for life'

correct, its not a service part. common for most makes.

however changing it from time time probably isn't a bad idea.

as for leaks, they can leak due to where they are as they are exposed to stones etc.
