lol wear indicators are well blended in so i doubt it - in fact i'd be wary about driving far on it to be honest

the rule is it must have tread on the center 3/4 of the tyre, that has......well.....just hope the police dont see it or thats 3 points on your license.

mine failed on the mot and they were abit better then that, probably worth getting them changed unless the garage has a relaxed attitude to mots, but very unlucky. Tbh for your safety prob worth getting some new ones anyway mate

Mine failed on tyres like that so get em changed lol. Avon zz3' too. Both sets wore like that yet my toyos have warn dead flat an I haven't had the tracking changed :S

yep its the middle 3/4s that you have to have legal tread thread on. but you dont even meet that criteria. so no chance of passing. (you also need visible tread on remainder.

They can pretty much fail them anyway if they feel they are 'unsafe', id say these would fall into that category.

Get them changed, and buy some better tyres while you are at it.
Im guessing car is lowered fairly significantly...

The car is not lowered and tracking is good - maybe these Avons wear badly? They have done 15k miles.

I don't believe they are a safety risk - there's still 3mm tread across most of the tyre - but they obviously need changing.

Might try Toyos this time.

Thanks all

Not quite right there

You must have legal minimum tread across the centre 3/4 of the tyre and visible treaf across the whole width of the tyre.

The OP's tyres are definitely illegal

not lowered and tracking is good.. well something is wrong as they shouldnt wear like that.

You dont think there is a safety risk as there is 3mm tread across the rest of the tyre. Well the rest of the tyre doesnt help if the worn section fails,
You could soon be down to the thread/metal with massively increase thread of a blow out.

MY car isn;t lowered and the tracking is bang on, and with standard camber, thats exactly how the front tyres wore down.

Its just a design feature of standard suspension on the MK4s

I've had a 4 wheel alignment done and the tracking is fine - mk4's just seem to ruin the insides of front tyres. Avons are pretty soft so maybe they suffer more.

I realise the tyres need changing, and I'm not saying I'd drive much further on them - but they're not "dangerous" for dhort journeys in town.

Anyway, getting some Hankook Ventus V12 evo k110's put on tonight.

I've got the Hankooks, crackin' tyres, I rate them alot, equal to toyos in the dry but much much better than them in the wet.

Dangerous or not they are illegal - if you get stopped it's 3 points a corner for defective tyres.

Do you tend to chuck the car around corners and roundabouts? This could account for the poor wear.

Good to hear. They're well reviewed and a bargain at £70 a corner

TBH I don't drive hard all that often. I do push it every now and then, so that probably causes the wear.

I'll see how I get on with a slightly harder tyre

If your tracking is perfect.... Which for your sake I hope its not.
I'd think it was the bushes, They will wear quicker on the inner than outer, but NOT to that extreme

Tracking can't be right...

Inner edge is way too worn, while the outer edge looks like it's feathered.

By saying the tracking it spot on, is that because the wheel is central? I'll wager a poor alignment has set the wheels toe out
