Window regulator, £165 :O

Hello all,

Yesterday while I was out and about, my window slipped down into the door never to be seen again (until later that night).

Some blokes at work helped me take the panel off and pull the window back up, which I then taped in place.

Anyways, we found out that the shoddy plastic runner/clip had snapped which obviously means I needed to book the car in for a repair.

Phoned Seat this morning, and apparently they can't just replace the runner/clip, they have to do the whole unit. They quoted £165 for the driver side. Although I thought it was expensive, I asked them to sort out the passenger side too just so I know it's done and dusted.

Why Seat cars can't have those strong metal clips supporting the windows as standard I'll never know.

my car is GX53, and unfortuantly the car doesn't have a very long manufacturer warranty (friend of mine has a VW Golf, which he said had a 5 year manufacturer warranty).

same happened to mine a couple of months back. I did it myself but the part alone was 70 quid, i wouldnt bother getting both sides done, why not just wait and see if it breaks, they dont replace it with anything different than is already there. save yourself the money.

I asked the guy if he could put metal clips instead of the cheap plastic ones.

happened to me.
cost me £10 from breakers.
are you sure its the clip broken and not the cable/motor. the clip may just be the first thing to break in the event of a jam or it he cable breaks. this is what happend to mine.
(on mine, all be it a leon, the cable is a continuous figure of eaigt arrangment. if its the same you shouldnt have a loose end for the cable).

yeah, it's definately the clip that broke. The guy that helped me sort the window out last night has had the same happen to him on his Golf.

The white plastic thing had snapped.

I had my passenger side done under warranty. Never thought it was a common problem until now!

It was/is a very common failure on the golfs - the plastic clip wasn't upto the job and VW released a repair kit with metal clips. Now some dealers replace under warranty.
