so would be graitful if someone can help this simpleton out cheers in advance

I've had the same issue so don't worry too much! It's not at a friendly angle to be able to get to the release clip.

Having just stripped and resealed all of my doors the easiest option is to remove the door carrier plate with the lock module still attached.

You will need to unbolt the module from the side of the door, multi splined bolts, then release the door handle latch from the outside. It sound dramatic but is allot easier than stripping everything down.

There are some really good guides around if you google for them, also worth replacing the door sealing strip whilst you are there to stop any leaks into the car.
Having removed the door carrier the sealant will now, more than likely, be beyond it's best.

Yeh that's right unbolt everything and leave the modual attached to the inner door carrier and just pull it off, there's to plastic clips holding it in place, don't worry about braking them as the bolts hold the new one in place

Thanks for advice will give it another go at the weekend need to reseal doors anyway so looks like a busy weekend ahead cheers

My drivers side front electric window is making a pretty annoying squeeky rubbing noise. Is this likely to do with the rubber or is it a sign that the motor is on the way out or something?

Don't take it as gospel but suspect it might not be your motor as its a separate unit that meshes on to wiper mechanism only moving part I can see is a plastic cog so I would say more chance of mechanism its self it consists of metal wire enclosed in rubber sleeves could be the rubber that's giving you the squeak
