Windscreen Wipers - am I going crazy?

Right bear with me, I'm not going crazy, I don't think!

Has anyone else noticed that when turning the ignition off after a drive, the windscreen wipers move a very small amount? It was the sound I noticed first, and after looking at them, they appear to move upwards, out of their bonnet recess by a small amount.

I have auto-wipers if that makes any difference...

Yep, I've noticed this as well. Usually happens when turning the engine off after the wipers have been used.

I have a mk6 golf and it does the same, might be something to do with not fowling the bonnet when opened and service mode.

Yes mine does this think they also move when ignition turned on too

They move so that you can lift them up up to change the blades etc...

That was my original suspicion, don't think they move enough to facilitate unparking though. There's also a dedicated service position like all other VAG cars I've owned.

Found the answer after a quick Google, quite a clever feature:

The wiper system on this car is equipped with an "alternating park position" (APP) funtion. Every time the wipers are switched off, APP causes the wiper arms to move upwards slightly from the lowest position, causing the wiper blade rubbers to flip in a manner that alternates from the previous switch-on event. This funtion serves to increase wiper blade service life by alternating the wiper rubber contact angle at the windshield while the wipers are parked. I believe this function is also activated when turning the ignition on and off.

Parked the car many a time now and it was only when I last parked up in the garage I noticed the wiper movement described.Glad to see it is common to all.
