Winter wheels and Tyres

I know we're still in the middle of summer and I am yet to even take delivery of my Cupra but am already thinking ahead to winter. Working out in a rural area, I am thinking of investing in some Winter wheels and tyres as I think the 19's on my Cupra may struggle and the last thing I wanna do is damage them in the Ice and Snow. I also don't like the thought of all that salt getting on to them and causing corrosion.

Has anybody else considered this yet? I am thinking some 17"'s or 18"'s if the price is right, but was wondering if anybody knew what size wheels will fit? I know that winter wheel and tyre combo's can be picked up pretty cheap this time of year, hence the forward planning.

Thanks.

I am having the same thoughts mate, I have used winter tyres on my Ibiza for the last few years and I think it is worth it.
I had started to price up bits and pieces and I was going down the route of a set of 18 inch alloys and winter tyres.
Still very much in the research stage at the moment though.

You won't be able to go less than 17" because of the front brakes. Having had winter tyres on my Golf and the wheel specs being the same, I'm already sorted. I've a set of Speedline Turinis in the garage with Goodyear winter tyres on.

I wouldn't go smaller than 17's anyway. Ideally I'd want 18's but the bigger the wheel, the more expensive the tyre, so would depend on what kind of deal I could get.

What size wheel/tyre combo do yo have mate

18x8 rims and 225/40 tyres. I never used them last winter because it was mild and wet, but they were amazing in the snow the previous year. I remember driving to work one evening down the middle of the road because there were so many cars not moving. The Golf was AWD, though, which probably helped. The road where I live is on a small hill and I've had many a car not go up it. It's a cul de sac so it never gets gritted!

Was thinking something like these. Anyone had Cades wheels before?

Used to be summer wheels for my S3, picked them up for around £300 at the time,
Spent a bit on the winter tyres obvs too.

BBS do some affordable (for them) wheels called the SR that they claim are for winter use. They do look rather Coarser VXR, though...

I've been trying to get my head around the various sizes for wheels/tyres for the Cupra 280.

I wasn't 100% sure about the width and offset of the 19" wheels, but assuming 8 and 51 I come to the conclusion there won't be a noticeable difference based on this site: http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...diameter2=18&wheelwidth2=8&offset2=45#content

Thinking:
- 18" Alloys
- 8J
- 45mm offset.
- 5x112 bolt patten

And 225/40R18 tyres.

Does anyone come to a different conclusion?

I have a set of RS4 alloys for mine, they are 18x8 and the offset is 43 and they fit no problem.

The tyres I have gone for are Kumho KW27, they are 235/40x18 and are only 1mm different in diameter to the standard wheel/tyre combo

Hi, new owner of a Cupra 280 DSG and first post.

Had a VW CC before the Cupra and also had a set of genuine winter wheels and tyres for it to, so as an experiment before I put them for sale on ebay, I took off one of the Cupra's front wheels to see if it would fit.

It fitted over the brakes just fine went for a drive everything was ok, so if they fit on the front they will fit in the back no problem.

That set of wheels and tyres cost me £550 delivered direct from Germany ordered off ebay, so if any of you want the details of the wheels and sizes here they are.

VW "Sima" style 6.5J x 17 ET 39 tyre size 205 50 17.

I put the sizes into an online wheel size calculator and they are almost a perfect match.

Check out the Seat Germany accessories section. Seat supply Winter wheel / tyre packages for Leon incl. Cupra all sizes. May not be the cheapest, but an interesting read.

Hi guys, first post.

Recently bought a 2015 Cupra 280 with the performance pack black. Anyone looking at 18 inch winter wheels make sure they are 18x8.

I work for a VW/Audi/Seat dealer and the wheels they say fit the Cupra are only 18x7.5...the fronts don't fit, as I just found out :(

UPDATE : It seems that the more important info you need with the wheels is the 'ET..' number which is the offset of the wheel. which is the difference between the centre line of the wheel and the bolt face. Confusing stuff.

Hi

Can I use any 18x8 rim? I ordered a 290 with performance pack but I'm thinking of sticking to standard so I can fit 17" when winter arrives. I've asked around several dealerships but no one can really give me a straight answer, more like guesses.

I can only give you info from my experience...I went to a wheel specialist who said they could help and they ordered 18" wheels to test and see if they would work, unfortunately the Brembo calipers are just too big and they wouldn't fit. The guys working at the shop were all shocked at how big the calipers were.

I ended up buyng another set of performance pack wheels exactly the same as the originals. Even these have minimal clearance fron the inside of the wheel to the caliper, but they are designed specifically for the Brembo's.

I'm sure you could find some 18" wheels to fit, but everyone I have spoke to seems to know nothing about the performance pack, which is pretty frustrating. So I gave up and went for the originals.

Good luck!
