Wiper Judder

I've been told that if your wipers are juddering then the arms might need adjusting.

Possibly the springs that tension the arms need adjusting?

Never had that problem myself so I don't know how you go about it though.

yeah, I guess the arms could be fubar, anyone know a ball park figure for new arms and the best place to get 'em?

While i'm here anyone got any experience with corrado central locking/lecy windows, the electrics on the wifes corrado are having a mid life crisis!

This is an interesting issue.

I had nightmares with Halfords blades. They skipped, caught each other and bent each other :scary:

I fitted Bosch Aeros. They were ok -ish. Didn't last too long and started to skip. The Valeos have been class in comparison. I'd buy them again anytime. :cartman:

I replaced my wipers when i got my Leon last year with Bosch spoiler blades from Halfords, but the drivers side keep smearing, so bought a genuine SEAT front wiper there not perfect, at clearing the screen, but not crap either, if that helps.

And I too was going to get some aero Golf mk4 fronts, think I'll save me £60.00 for summat else in that case.....

woohoo! its taken me 2 years , i just stopped the juddering!

Thought i'd dig out the aeros and try them again , im thinking of selling the car, so thought i'd put 'em on...

As per usual judder judder judder, so, after a bit of googlisation, came up with this fix,,

park up, turn on wipers, when blades are in the 12 o'clock position on your windscreen turn off the ignition.

Your wipers should be parked pretty much in the upright possition now.

Get out of the car, now, the blades should cross sectionally be sat at 90 degrees to the screen, ie not leaning in either direction.

Remove blade at this point and if carefully rest the hook end of the arm on the screen, again you should be able to see if its flat on the screen.

Once youve worked out which way you need to go, get a suitable impliment, i used a largish spanner, put it in the hook and twist the arm so that it sits flat.

Replace blade and check its now sat at 90 degrees and enjoy judder free motoring.

It took me 10 times longer to type this than to fix the prob!

incidently if anyone fancies a 53 lcr, give me a pm..

Worth mentioning that the genuine wipers are curved and a lot of aftermarket ones are not.
We do a lot of used cars and find that 99% of wiper issues are down to a build-up of wash 'n' wax on the glass - Autoglym Car Glass Polish is the gear to cut it all back.
Genuine blades are not as expensive as you may think - around £13 a pair and a fiver for a rear
