Hi Guys,
I just got a new Arona 2021 and I though the same thing - "Apple Carplay should connect wirelessly" . In my Skoda - I get it and the phone and radio does its thing. But I think I get whats happening, here's my take on it:
- I'm forcing myself to use the BT connection and Seat's onboard navigation and its good. Just like Toyota - but Maps & navigation, Music & audiobooks is done better by the pros (Apple). I prefer those because I'm used to them and they work extremely well. (I'm not paying Apple cart loads of money for a phone that is just OK.)
- SEAT has put a lot of effort into their infotainment systems but Apple Carplay (and Andriod equivalent) made it irrelevant. SEAT obviously want to make some money out of their SEAT CONNECT system, and they put a crap load of money into its development. Their only recourse is to make it slightly more inconvenient (plugging the cable in) to use Carplay than to use their system.
- During that process (of coercing to use their system) they hope to get you used to their system so that you no longer mind. But I tell you what, when my free year of "Seat connect" expires I don't think renew it. I would have paid the same price for the car without it (but with wireless carplay). Sorry SEAT the truth hurts.
All the facilites is there in the car headset - its just a software block. If I had known this I would not have bought the car - (wireless) Carplay was one on the items on my checklist.
How can we request this from SEAT? Perhaps they will bring this in as a software update when the new models are released?
Other than that, I'm could not be happier with the car. Good drive, good looks, good(ish) fuel economy.
