Wobble's on fast roads

Does anybody feel as thought their Ibiza has a handling problem at high speeds (on duel carrage ways and motorways)? I feel as though I am wrestling with the wheel when I hit the 70 / 80 on the motorways. It doesnt even have to be very windy but as soon as I pass a high sided van or lorry or one passes me, I feel the car getting sucked into the middle of the road. If a gust of wind hits me its even worse. I used to drive a punto (which is much lighter) and that didnt even suffer the same from high speeds. I also find that when I hit a bump, I lose the steering wheel easily. I used to think the steering was very light but after taking it back to the dealer, they find that there is nothing wrong with the steering.

I would be obliged if anyone can pass me any suggestions as to what the problem might be.

Mines fine, a lot taller than my previous car so it's gets a bit of buffeting. Check your tyre pressures with an accurate gauge, (i.e not the one on a Halfords foot pump)!

Yes scares the crap out of me when sidewinds hit cos its just 10 times worse, to many sore memories of car accidents.

The car compared to my old mk2 polo is alot taller, but bounces around far to much for my liking on teh motorway hence coilovers are going on, the rear spacers help settle her down a good bit tho. Its the corners that my hates, even very mild feels if i dont hold on dead tight shes gonna go accross the road!

Tyre pressures are good to, 33 front, 30 rear with me and one other. Maybe just me i dont know

Yes, the cross winds are especially bad. I suppose it is a taller car than the punto I used to drive. The steering feels too light as well. I dont think the steering feels responsive enough. I dont know if it is mind over matter but I see to trace these problems back to a pot hole I went through. What can I do if the dealer cannot find any problems though?

How does this VAGCOM work Chemical Al? Is the steering weight adjustable automatically through the VAGCOM programme? Or does the steering have to be adjusted mechanically? Where would I find somebody with VAGCOM?

Vagcom is software that talks to your car (similar to the computer at the dealers). the steering weight can be adjusted through the software (no mechanical adjustments).
There are quite a few people on here with it or you can buy a lead and software yourself (look in the Vagcom section of the forum for more info) Maybe get along to a SCN meet near you and ask amongst the peeps if anyone has it.

I'd suggest getting your geometry set up properly (IE not by someone like Kwik-Fit...).

Had mine done at Awesome GTI and it made it noticeably more stable on motorways, less "fidgety" than before if that makes sense !
A few people have had abnormal tyre wear from new because of incorrect wheel alignment.
Are your tyres wearing evenly ? Have a good look at inner and outer edges.

Weighting the steering up is a good suggestion too, they are very light as standard.

Yeah i'd get your tracking and that checked, also make sure one of your wheel balancing weights hasn't fell off.

I find mine a bit light and twitchy sometimes. It definitely follows road camber like when you get caught in tracks on the motorway or an uneven surface - well a lot more than my old Arosa did. do you reckon seat will weight the steering under warranty?

It's not really a warranty job, more of an "adjustment".

But if they want to charge you, tell them where to go and get someone with vag-com to do it for you :)
