Not bad - would expect the Cupra to be much more beefed up. Not totally convinced that this FR is enough of a statement over the standard models. Just my 2p worth :)

Would agree with Cogger - lots of "Fr" badging but exterior styling doesn't look that much different from the rest of the range. With 170 BHp on tap bet it goes.

am I dreaming or is that a porsche-sque accelerator pedal???

[don't like the car too much tbh but I must say I liked all the mk2 leons I've seen best in the real thing than on the net piccies]

Even though the Leon is growing on me I still prefer the new Golf GT (1.4TSI) to the Leon FR.

Wait and see what the Cupra bring in diesel form I suppose, petrol is just going to be silly for tax reasons.

Are they doing a Cupra diesel, I only thought the were doing a 240bhp petrol?

I think they'd need to do some more development on that.... I can't see it being especially frugal

I do know that a tdi 'range topper' is out of the question though. But reading the UK PR part of the article, the PD150 FR made up for a lot of UK sales. so maybe they will.

High output TDi's tend to get a bit of a rough ride from magazine hacks though.

Exactly - this is just the current GTI with a different badge and a much lower price tag!

That depends on the handling as the MkV Gti is apparently a very sweet handler - although having driven a basic Tdi in the new Leon I'd say it bodes well for the FR and the Cupra. Out of interest do the new leon and MkV golf share the same basic platform?

Yes. Along with the Skoda Octavia and, I think, Audi A3.

no TDI cupra planned apparently, just petrol, similar to old model FR vs. Cupra R model line-up

I think it looks great. Its just one of those cars that pictures dont do it justice but when you see one on the road they look awesome. Was behind a new leon on the A1 South for a good 20 minutes and it looks superb.

I am pleasantly surprised that they have got the 200bhp engine in the FR, TBH I was waiting for the TFSI rebadged sport as the FR model and the Cupra to be the 200bhp range topper (So that the Golf GTi had some advantage).

Personally I think the Leon will look better in the flesh, with different alloys and in a darker colour. I like the kit and if this is the FR then the Cupra could look stunning.
