got even more problems with my car now. its had a noise from the back and the technicians diagnosed it as 'spot welding' gone on a car less than a year old. i then get called to the body shop with the car in pieces and am shown all the seals are breaking away - i really have had enough of it now this is not on for a new car! u pay all that money so u dont have this problem. if i wanted a car that rattled like **** and felt like a trolley id have a saxo! going to write to the supplying dealer. i want my money back, does anyone have any advise or tips for me?

I'm with you you pay a lot of money for a new car so you have less problems that was my justification in buying a new car I wouldn't have any issues... Well lol that backfired! Really dissapointed this is my first experience of a VAG car

Forget the supplying dealer - the structural integrity of the shell is in question if spot welds and seals are comming appart.

I would be going direct to seat or even higher ( VW ag the parent company ) - point out that the crash protection rating of the car relies on the soundness of the body shell and its welded construction.

Whatever you do - DO NOT get emotional in your corespondance - just state facts clearly.

I would be looking at getting a NEW CAR because you no longer have faith in the safety of the current one based on the poor construction of the bodyshell.

Before you contact anyone officially - go and have a chat with your local trading standards people. They may want to get a third party inspection done before the evidence can be hidden !!

After speaking to them and citizens advice - I would expect they will advise as follows :

You will need to write down all the things that have gone wrong with appropriate dates and what actions have been taken to correct them.

Then explain to them that you no longer feel safe driving a car that has sub standard construction of the bodyshell ( as demonstrated by the spot welds failing )

Give them a deadline to respond before you will seek legal advice prior to legal procedings to recover your investment.

As a minimum I would want a replacement car or a refund.

What they will try to do is charge you for the miles you have already driven (wear & tear) - so you are unlikely to get the FULL value or a new car without paying something.

Every warranty job should have an invoice produced ( so they can claim back from SEAT ) - that will give you the dates.

I would chat to someone before you start putting it in writing to the dealer.

Personally I would go back to the dealer and just politly ask to speak to the manager about a car you have purchased. When you get to meet him explain the issues youve had. The fact the welding has come off and the seals are coming off would worry me. Explain the following issues dont give you confidence in the car and compremises the shell.

Id ask for a replacement or a full refund. If they dont deliver on that then write to Seat directly and get trading standards involved. If you want get a vehicle inspection done and phtograph everything, document everything and if you have finance contact the finance company.

The dealer should be fairly helpful as he will deal with Seat to get this sorted.

Get an independent inspection, preferably from the RAC. It is a worthwhile investment. Firstly they will let you know if the structural integrity has been compromised and will check there are no other safety issues with the car.

Don't get angry with the dealer, it will be as much of a surprise to them as you. Get them on your side to promote your case to Seat. They have a reputation to keep.

Be cold and clinical when contacting Seat and if you are not confident on how to handle these matters get someone with more wordly experience to help you.

My impression of the Ibiza after 4,000 miles on a new FR 11 plate is that it is nowhere as good a quality build as some of the other cars in the Seat range such as the Leon. It is made to a price and you can really tell.

correct me if im wrong but isnt this quite serious. welding of the chassis is done on the production line and if its coming apart then isnt that a serious issue for more owners? What was your build date? If structural integrity is in doubt, the warranty manager will have no issues in sorting it out so dont let them pull the wool over your eyes.

all the advice above is spot on and you can also quote section 13 of the sale of goods act (not fit for the purpose for which it was intended) e.g if you buy a hammer that doesnt bang a nail in, its clearly not fit for purpose

if you have a library of faults, ask the service dept to print off all your invoices and you'll be able to prove lack of fitness for purpose. failing chassis is the icing on the cake. i would push for a replacement vehicle, especially if yours wasnt MY11 (please confirm) you can get a load of extra stuff as part of your spec

i would be interested to hear what others think about this being a more widespread issue though....

LOL, you would need to pull it apart to see the welds mate hahahahha. In all seriousness though, if that is the issue they need to ship that car right back to Spain to show them the quality of their work, or are the machines doing these welds? Might need to sort out the programming then or replace the QC inspectors.

cheers guys for all your advise and comments i am seriously unhappy about this as some1 said its just the icing on the cake - why should i pay all that money for this? just to confirm for u guys my car is a 10 plate with 20k on the clock and ive had it nearly a year - pictures are as follows and i just see it as this.... "would u guys want your new car back if it looked like this?!'

WOW!!!! that has really pulled loose in the boot there hasn't it??!!!! Not on a car with 20K mate, replacement car springs to mind.

That looks like your car has had a rear end impact,. Transit damage that you are not aware of....possibly!
