this is what im saying to you mate, you say the cupras handling is better- but you have modified the suspension..so it cant be as great as you make out..can it...i havent even touched mine yet, but i know this needs to be sorted..its like the guy said earlier SEAT knew the weak link was the suspension, it was no great secret

Err, I only lowered it by 10mm all round, helps when you've got nearly 400 ftlbs of torque to put down on the road... also looks a bit better...

There is also the point that the Cupra turbo passes 300hp with remap only whereas the LCR requires a bit more work to get there. There are some backwards steps however, no leather being one, Seat not flipping things like the alarm LED and handbrake mouldings and so on. Depends on how you view these things. Speaking for myself, I am glad I got the Mk2, for me it was that they run a K04 twin scroll and that it is a 16v FSI instead of a 20v.

Indeed, i would of ejected it's image from my memory if my LCR was a hateful thing. It was and still is a great car, and i still have a large gallery of my images dedicated to it.

My only expression is some of the arguments are clearly hyped, and are at most completely inaccurate.

Cheap components such as it's stock dampers and springs affected the LCR after only a few months. The day i picked up my new LCR it was on rails, 6 months later its ride was ruined by crashy leaking dampers. I expect before long the Cupra may suffer the same issues, but so far it's lasted longer than the LCR did.

However in my mind if you want performance out of any car, you need to invest in performance parts. My LCR was transformed with Eibach rollbars and Eibach coilovers, but the chassis was still not as dynamic as the Mk2 chassis is.

Though my current Mk2 Cupra may roll more on it's stock suspension, the chassis is more balanced so the softer ride and damping doesn't limit it as much as the stock stuff did on the LCR. I can forsee that when i eventually invest in a performance solution for the Mk2 Cupra it will improve the handling in equal measure.

Subsequently they are both great SEAT's and owners should be rightly proud and enthusiastic about them. They both have their drawbacks, and in the minds eye critical failings too.

I'll put it this way, if i didn't have a Mk2 Cupra, i'd still be in a LCR. [B)]

Thats a 210 model not a 225 in the vid...........probably makes ar*e all difference though :)

It also has a turbo back exhaust, uprated intake and approx 227bhp ;)

I am willing to bet that there very little between the 210 and 225 LCR with regard to performance.

I agree it never made any difference in regard to how tuneable my 210 was in comparison to the 225 version. In fact mine always pumped out strong figures even when up against 225's with the same level of modification, in many cases it produced better figures.

Like i said, its hype and incorrect for people to make those assumptions. The difference 15hp makes if negligible if indeed that was an accurate assessment anyway and not just a bit of marketing spin from SEAT. We saw 225 and 210 cars make similar figures even as standard.

I'm another one for the LCR. Main reason being is that I'm still not keen on the looks of the mk2 nor the interior. I am however very impressed by the engine.

Fact is anyone that owns or is due to buy a mk2 will think its better and vice versa.

I have driven both and in my opinion they are very similar cars I didn't find the mk2 offered anything more in terms of performance or handling (hard to believe I know) than the LCR.
I thought the mk2 was a lot smoother and I think this is part of the reason why its perceived to handle better as its a lot easier to drive, whereas the LCR is a bit more aggressive in its power delivery so needs more care to be driven well especially if you still have rossos.

Be interesting to see how the track times compare between the two cars, so far the cars seem to be pretty equal in the hands of a good driver yet the average joe thinks they are further apart.

Perfect car for me would be an LCR with the mk2 cupra engine (or maybe it just needs a twin scroll ko4) but I'd keep the mk1 suspension as I kind of enjoy the challenge.

When you look at other makes though;

Ford Escort RS Cosworth vs Ford Focus ST
Ford Sierra RS Cosworth vs Ford Mondeo ST
Audi Quattro Turbo vs Audi S3
Poxhall Chavalier Turbo vs Poxhall Vectra VXR

People often prefer older cars to their successors. When you look at the cars above there is not much to separate the performance and probably track times between new and old, but dynamically, each of the new cars will be superior to the old one.

The most you are gonna get on an LCR with stock turbo is under 300bhp - 290bhp maybe with the right bits. LC makes 50bhp more than that with the right bits. Both cars take similar money to get to those figures too. In light of this, because the MK2 Leon has a better initial chassis £ for £ spent after initial purchase price, the LC is gonna be faster, better accelarating and better in bends.

I think the main reason people dont like the new LC are its looks and the crap central part of the dash, and this tends to make people pick faults in it elsewhere.

I think we can all agree to disagree. At the end of the day the cars are great fun, they are SEAT's and we love em old or new. Simple really. :)

We'll bounce off the thread walls for days and no-one will be any closer to any kind of definitive outcome.

I think it's time for some closure to it. :)
