CUPRA extends KIRO Formula E partnership as Gen4 era begins

CUPRA has extended its Formula E partnership with KIRO as the championship prepares for the Gen4 era, with a new car and livery shown at Goodwood.

CUPRA has confirmed it is extending its Formula E partnership with KIRO as the championship moves towards its new Gen4 era, underlining the brand’s continued commitment to electric motorsport.

The agreement means CUPRA KIRO will continue competing together in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, building on the partnership established over the last two seasons. For CUPRA, it is another clear sign that Formula E remains central to how it wants to develop and showcase electrified performance.

CUPRA KIRO heads into Gen4

The timing of the announcement is important. Formula E is preparing for its next major step forward with the arrival of the Gen4 regulations, which will bring the fastest and most advanced cars the series has seen so far.

CUPRA says the team will enter this new era with the Porsche 975 RSE, as Formula E pushes performance and efficiency to a new level. Under the Gen4 rules, power will rise to 600kW, or 816PS, while permanent active all-wheel drive will further increase capability. The new cars are expected to exceed 335km/h and sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 1.8 seconds.

That makes this a significant moment not just for the team, but for CUPRA’s wider motorsport story too. The brand has made no secret of its belief that racing is the best possible test lab for future technology, and Formula E remains its clearest route for pushing that message.

Goodwood reveal for the new Gen4 car

As part of its Goodwood Festival of Speed appearance, CUPRA KIRO is also unveiling its new Gen4 Formula E car in a one-off ‘Energy Flow’ livery created specifically for the event.

That gives British fans an early look at Formula E’s next generation, with Dan Ticktum set to take the new display car up the Goodwood hillclimb on Sunday. It will mark the first public appearance of a Gen4 Formula E car in the UK, adding a bit more weight to CUPRA’s debut at the Festival of Speed.

A key part of CUPRA’s electric future

For CUPRA, this is about more than just keeping a racing programme going. Extending the KIRO partnership reinforces the brand’s focus on electrification, performance and using motorsport to shape what comes next.

That fits with the wider message CUPRA is pushing at Goodwood this year, where the brand is using its debut appearance to show both its road-going and racing electrified future. But if the Leon VZ e-Hybrid Racer points towards one possible direction for touring cars, the continued Formula E partnership with KIRO remains the clearest signal of where CUPRA sees the cutting edge of electric competition today.
