Got under the car today to check the state of play in the turbo, due to the oil consumption at the moment, was glad to see all was well with the turbo, worn slighlty but not massive play.

Now i've been running a catch tank just inline on the PCV system to the TIP which is picking up some oil/vapour but not much.

There seems to be a lot of oil in my IC pipes so would this point to a stuffed PCV valve?

If so, how do i check, replace etc.. or remove with the catch tank?

Thanks.

Phil.

BTW, car is 73k, 30k on revo stage 1 and 2.

Funnily enough i was poking around with my turbo Saturday and also noticed quite a bit of oil in the intercooler pipes. So would also be interested as to why. Phil the PCV valve that black saucer looking thing on the tip near DV? (<< how technical am i)

Thats part of the breather system, just a check valve/flow control thing.

The PCV valve sits above the oil filter housing with a rubber elbow coming out of it joining to the crank case breather.

It also joins with under side of the inlet mani.

Ahh i see, cheers :)

strange - I also found oil when i removed the pipe of my intercooler -

phil - the breather near the DV - mines covered in oil - should that be like that?

oil is normal in intake system.
excess oil could be from excess crankcase pressure from ring blow by too.

overfilled and it will find a way back out again.

Hasnt been overfilled bill, not by the amount i've lost. top level - bottom level in 1000 odd miles.

How have you rigged yours up? Removed the PCV altogether, blanked the inlet mani and plumbed the crankcase breather etc.. into the tank?

Vacuum to PCV (removed) and inlet mani line blanked yes.
front breather and cam cover breather both join and feed into the catch tank which in turn vents via a breather filter to atmosphere.

no oil in my pipes

Had to do this as track cornering and braking forces threw ltrs of oil down the breather system and into the intake.

instead of having a seperate breather on the tank is it ok to still connect it to the tip?

yea.. all down to how well your breather system works and if there's any residual oil to go into the intake still (ie a mist is inevitable)

I think thats how i'll be doing mine Bill. Thanks for the info.

Is there a quick way to check the state of the PCV? Pull it out and visually check it?

suk on the thing when its removed... its only a simple poppet valve... if you can suk but not blow its working as it should.

Sorry Lads, Couldn't resist!

Hey Phil, i may pop up on the weekend, if your working on the motor, so you can sort a few things on mine! Haa haa!
