Decat my tdi - have any of you guys done it?

Hey guys. My name is Ashley, I'm newish to this site and have only been in the Ibiza mk4 section at the moment. I have an Ibiza 130 tdi and have recently had a Powerflow back box put on (the actually silencer box being about the size of a motorbike can!) and it does make a slight noise but i want it quite a bit louder. If I decat my Ibiza, what will it sound like? Apparantly it makes it stink something rotten. Have any of you done it and would you recommend it?

I had mine done and tbh I did not really notice any difference.

I had the center section and then the rear box replaced(It was almost a straight pipe)

It did pass the mot without any problems

As for the noise it did not sound any louder than when I had the miltek fitted!

Lots of people ( and Fez boy ) have had the cat removed with no problems and no stink. You will not notice any power gains though and the noise will still remain the same. It is only a worth while mod if you have gone down the hybrid turbo route. Saying that i know my local Power flow dealer can take the cat off for about £70ish so if you still want to give it a go.

I think I have this idea that when i take it off it will make it so much louder and will sound a lot more torquey. so if i do decat, you reckon it'll make no difference to sound? or if it does, very minimal?

Did Cat and rear box on mine but ended up going for a small rear silencer ( powerflow like yours) as it was just too noisy.

Sound wise, i LOVE it - for what it costs it sounds lovely.

At the moment, you need to be driving around with the radio off, windows down and ideally in indoor car parks for it to sound nice. do your windows up and have the radio on (normally, not loud) and you have no chance of hearing the exhaust at all.

that's mine with the powerflow silencer and no cat - should get a similar sound from yours.

Sounds louder than mine atm. will give it a go. may as well. I think it should make a bit of noise difference surely? thanks for your help and advice

No worries, if you do a search for mufferlectomy you might find some more examples - there's been a few threads about it of late and there's sound clips on those threads too

TBH, its never gonna sound that loud, its a derv...

MAybe add a filter for a deeper note but its only really going to amplify the diesel drone.

Although mine sounded nice on full chat with lots of whistles in between!

When I had my Fabia, I changed for a Blueflame turbo back system which was a de-cat. Noticed some extra grunt as well as a beautiful sound.
I've heard a PD130 with a de-cat (standard exhaust) and It was no louder than your average exhaust.

Mine sounds nice now, but its got a hybrid turbo, race downpipe, and then 2.25" stainless right to a tailpipe - no cat, backbox or anything in there. I've stuck on a semi decent fly-by of me on a runway in Czech - ignore the smoke.

that does sound very nice tbh...I know it can't be that loud just with a decat but yours sounds nicer than you'd imagine. (no offence!) must have been shifting though?

About 120mph there. Never got it above 130 on the runway due to "flapping" bits of bodywork. Long story involving both my wheel arch liners deciding to self-destruct on the trip through Europe....

Done the same and chickened out at a ton 40. Was on an autobahn, honest. Yeah, the wheelarch thing was odd. No warning - one went on the M25 on the way to Dover, and was patched up with duck tape. Then the other one went on an autobahn whilst at pace... Again, plenty of duck tape to try and secure it, but they were never the same and flapped about madly at over a 100....

Now replaced with new, and better secured ones.

Anyway - decat - go for it. I decatted mine about 3 years ago with a powerflow decat pipe on my oem exhaust (still have it if anyone fancies it ) but it was all removed for the stainless "system" that went in, and have added an Allard race downpipe since the Czech trip which makes the exhaust sound more throaty and less "farty"

thank god for duct tape! lol the road does seem to be going a bit quick at that speed doesnt it? what you want is like a badger or pheasant to walk out casually in front of you!!! thats what started to freak me as it was at night on a very empty, dark motorway! lol. what sort of mileage has yours done? you seem to get around in it!

Engine conversion done with clock reading 7360. Got that running roughly October 2005. And now its approaching 40,000, so done over 30,000 miles in about 15 months.

All long trips worth it though - CZ was 2500 miles in 4 days, trip to Nurburgring, and I just have any excuse to go for a drive.

Me too. out everynight driving! would love to go driving that far! dont get enough time off work or enough pay at work to do it though! maybe one day....
