Ive been thinking lately that this has been the most unreliable car ive owned to date. I have spent a fortune on this car since i bought it. As follows.

Parts it had just before i bought it:

Full set of coil packs

Maf sensor

Things ive needed to fix:

Car wouldnt start - ignition switch knackered. SEAT wanted £150. Wired in a push button start.

ABS/Traction Control Light - N/S/F ABS Sensor. £50

AirBag Light - Driver Squib/Clockspring behind steering wheel. £80

D/S window inop - D/S window regulator. £100

Window inop D/S again - Window Switch £15

Poor Running low MPG - Lambda Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1. £90

Coolant Light Beeping - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor £25

Aircon going cold but taking ages to get there - Lack of gas in the system. Recovered vacuumed and regasses and oiled system.

Boot Lock inop - Motor Seized. Freed off and all ok.

Boot Light Flickering on and off and half illuminated - Rear washer pipe came off and leaked into multi-plug and shorting out. Cleaned out and refit pipe.

Front Brakes Sqealing - Stripped and cleaned brakes numerous times comes and goes when it pleases.

Full service Oil, Air, fuel, spark plugs.

4 x 195/45/16 V NangKang SP2 Tyres.

Along with many dints and dents from inconsiderate F*****g c***s in supermarket car parks that just open there doors without even thinking of your car. Ive had dent devils around my car about 4 times now taking out a total of about 10-15 dents. Also im lucky as dent devils come into work and do it as a favour for like £20-30 eachtime instead of the £70+ V.A.T per panel as the usually charge

Thats the story so far, just started to happen now and wat else needs doing.

N/S/F and O/S/F strut top bearings noisy. About £40 for bits. Then 4wheel alignment.

P/S window switch starting to stop working intermittantly.

External temp sensor reading 22deg min and works its way upto 35+.

Needs timing belt kits + water pump/ 60k service.

Turbo coolant pipe gasket leaking at turbo.

Just cleaned my car today and noticed another dent in p/s/f door from when i was at tesco the otherday

Im starting to think that these cars aint all that reliable. What else is possibly going to go wrong with this thing. Im quite luck as im a technicain for ford so all of the work has been carried out by myself so ive only had to pay for parts and also got discount on everything ive bought.

Im not trying to sound like a grumpy git here but i was just starting to get annoyed with it and wanted to get it off my chest. Let me get back to moddifying to cheer myself up.

Ive not had much so far, just

Clutch,
Bottom Hose rubbed on fan,
Melted Fuse box, many melted fuses!!
Leaky water pump, but changed with cambelt
Next doors kid riding into the side of the car with his bike, small dent thats added to all the others!
Electric mirors dont work, only tried the switch so far, but now i cant be arsed to sort it out as im the only one who drives it (anyone know what the problem may be?)

Ive replaced loads of stuff just in case it may go and i wanted to start from a clean car, MAF, Coilpacks, Green Temp sender, plugs, cambelt, N75 etc

Owned mine since new in 2002.

Only had to replace two coilpacks, two temperature sensors, one air mas meter, one window switch and a bulb! Think that is it.

Has been a brill car!

R953 VSE, What were your symptoms when the clutch slave cylinder was leaking?

Was it just a case of the clutch not disengaging, or did it slip at all?

well i think it was the slave cylinder. had a load of brake fluid on top of the gearbox and if i put it into gear the clutch would start biting and the car tried to move away even if the pedal was hard to the floor. then had to lift the pedal up again with my foot. it was as if as soon as the clutch was seperated there was no pressure to hold it open and it would just slide back again on its own. didn't experiance any slipping whilst driving tho. stopped driving as soon as i could as it was bloody dangerous.

hope that makes sense.

Thanks R953 VSE

I owned mine since August and the following has gone wrong or needed changing:

Cambelt and waterpump.
Suspension bushes as several of the originals were split.
Discs and pads all round plus fresh fluid.
My latest is the clutch is slipping really bad.

The previous owner had the usual coil packs and MAF replacement. Also exhaust was replaced.

Forgot to say I also had a Mk2 Golf 8v and it was the most reliable car I have owned.
The only thing that used to go wrong with was the rear callipers used to sieze often.

Since buying mine in October and doing 5000 miles I've done the following.

Changed cambelt and waterpump
Fitted new camshaft oil seal
Fitted new discs and pads all round, sqeeling again though
Brake fluid change.
Started misfiring underload nipped up sparkplugs and pushed coilpacks on properly cured it.
Changed front wishbone front and rear bushes to powerflex ones as one of rears was hanging out of its metal ring.
ARB end link bushes that go onto wishbone while changing above bushes.
ARB end link, it sheared when changing above bushes.

Plus oil and filter changes every 5000 miles.

All done by myself at work. So its only cost me discounted parts through work.

In 12,000 miles replaced both lambda sensors, a window regulator and just about to do the clutch (started slipping the other month). Also changed the spark plugs but I class these as routine maintenance.

I think the MAF may be on its way out, still getting good mg/s but likes to stall when clutch dipped as it comes up to boost, un-plug the MAF and this stops. But thats no biggie as I need to replace it with a 3" one anyway.
