I am currently trying to decide in which to opt for, at the moment i have an FRP, but am looking at getting either a LCR or a leon tdi cupra, ive been searching all morning for different advice, really im looking at figures after they both been remapped, such as MPG and performance figures.

would it be worth getting the diesel for econemy as i only live four miles from work or would it be better to get the LCR and if so what are the benifits to the LCR over the diesel if there are any.

sorry for all the questions, any help would be great. :)

Totally upto you mate !!

Cupra TDI MPG - motorway around 50mpg, town driving 40-45, long distance upto 64 mpg (highest ive had is 62 !!)

LCR - around 28-34 mpg driving normally, can drop to low teens when booting it....

Cupra TDI when remapped can reach around 190-200bhp, LCR will reach around 260.

Try get a Leon FR+ - it has the bodykit of the FR, but the 150bph diesel engine :)

LCR is 210 or 225 as standard and a simple remap will take both engines to 250-265bhp depending on the map and the individual car. Torque rises from 200lb/ft to 280lb/ft+

Cupra/FR TDi's are 150bhp and remap to around 180-190bhp. I'm not 100% on the torque increase so I'll leave that for a derv owner....

LCR 0-60 is around 7 seconds as standard. TDi 150 is around 8.5. Remapping might shave a second off those figures absolute tops.

Fuel economy on the LCR isn't too bad, at around 26-30MPG average if you drive normally, but obviously this drops if you hammer it or do a lot of city driving.
The 150 TDi should deliver 45MPG+ depending on how you drive. Motorway driving at the speed limit will see 50MPG+

A remapped TDi will match a standard LCR from a rolling start, but as standard wont match it. Outright speed and performance from the LCR will still be better than a remapped TDi, but not a night and day difference. Remap the LCR and you're on another level though.....

My advice... if you're not doing lots and lots of miles, then the difference in fuel costs doesn't warrant the extra costs of the diesel. If you need fuel economy though, TDi all the way! But economy aside I'd go for the LCR personally (heck, I did!)

Hope this helps :)

You might kill the clutch if you remap a 150 tdi, whereas the clutch on a remapped LCR should last a little longer.

I had the same decision to make about a week ago. In the end i went for the LCR. The Mrs has a TDI bora, so she can have the sensible car that we can use for long journeys. The LCR is set up better for my style of driving. ie, suspension wheels, brakes. I also knew that with the LCR being the "top of the range" it would always bother me that i didnt get one (again) hence why a 180 Cupra wasnt even considered, even though there is quite a price difference.

thanks for the replies guys, considering i dont do many miles a week and it would very rarley be used for long journeys, i'm going to go for the LCR, insurance isnt too much extra above the tdi and i would probably always regret not getting top model.

Have you test driven either car yet? Well worth a spin in both so you can appreciate what each has to offer.

But I certainly wont disagree with your choice! If you don't need the extra fuel economy then the LCR will put a constant massive smile on your face :D

My clutch is fooked lol

OK for normal driving, but slips during "spirited" driving. Remap the TDI & your looking at between £500-£800 for a new one :)

I have too much to buy for this car !!!!!!

ps - it shouldnt slip with the likes of REVO, but I had a custom remap & specified the power gains & where the power comes in. Pete (BellAuto's) did say he would reduce the power & tweak it again when I get a new clutch if I wanted to (FOC) - very nice guy !!

I have the FR+ TDI with the Cupra-R kit. The remap has totally transformed it, though I havnt driven an LCR to compare.

FYI my clutch is still going strong though I wish I wasnt so consious of waiting until after 2.5k revs before I floor it! I would only get a bit of 'judder' if I floored it in too high a gear at low revs.

Im very happy with my choice though now I want the LCR as I wont be doing as many miles every day and the insurance wouldnt be a problem.

Good luck with whatever you choose, both are very nice cars IMO!

At a meet a little while ago I went to in bournemouth, we had SteveD's standard 150 FR TDi up against cupracoopers revo'd LCR. The FR did very well against it. A remaped FR 150 IMO may even pull away better. Only problem is the low revs and the fact you'd have to change sooner and probably lose power through the gears.

You'd have to try both and make your own mind up I think...

Let me get this right... a Revo'd LCR (So potentially 260+bhp and 300lbs/ft torque) was nearly beat by a standard 150TDi FR (150bhp and 235lbs/ft torque)?

To be fair to the LCR, he had just over taken us, then we both floored it (I was in the LCR as well) and the FR was going nicely. Clearly the LCR won though. Just was really impressive on the FR's side.
