Newbie Looking to buy a cupra!

hi guys,
i joined up a about 2 years ago when i was first going to buy a cupra, but i decided against it for various reasons - mainly insurane, so i braught a polo gti instead, which i have now sold.


Im looking to spend up to around 5kish the less the better obviously, as i am only going to keep the car until around the end of summer.
Jus a few quick questions i wanted to ask tho, i would appreciate if you guys could help me

Is there anything i should look out for when going to buy a cupra?? certain problems e.g clutch, gearbox issues that are common on them?? All the polo gti's that were registered on my previous forum - the gearbox would only last till 80k

How reliable are the cupra's am i likely to get some turbo problems

Cost wise, how are they on insurance and fuel?? i used to pay around 650 fully comp on the polo, and i used to get around 200 miles for £25 of fuel.
Similar costs?? as i normally drive to uni and back which is around 25 miles each way at a steady 50 mph.

Sorry for the questions, just wanted to know the basics, as i have got my heart set on a cupra, mainly the running costs that are putting me off and making me look a golf gt tdi

you'll be lucky to get 200 miles from £25 i think - might be close though if your doing 50mph. i managed to pick mine up with 43k on the clock for near what you want to pay, there are alot out there under £5k.

i looked a t a few under 5k and ended up spending 6k as it was best one i saw, you pays for what you get bud

Gearbox/Clutch:

From what ive heard and experienced, there are no real issues regarding the gearbox and clutch, if its remapped when you buy it, it may have been driven hard and the clutch might suffer from a bit of slip.....

Reliability/Turbo Problems:

The cars are very reliable, the common faults are things like maf and coilpacks etc... turbo problems will depend again on how it has been driven and how you will drive it, it may well have had a hard life and been thrashed from cold but you wont know. A replacement turbo can be bought fairly cheap if you can find one.

Insurance/Fuel Usage:

Insurance will depend greatly on how old you are and how many years ncb you have, im 25....birmingham postcode....no ncb (as its tied up in another car) ...fully comp = £550. Fuel wise, to fill the tank will cost you £45ish, i dont see any more than 250 miles out of that and i drive it fairly sensible most of the time, obviously having a turbo'd car your gonna want to put your foot down every now and again so if its economy vs insurance then i wouldnt buy one......get a ford fiesta.

You say that you've got your heart set on a cupra.......but your only wanting to keep it til the summer?? Thats about 4 months. Personally, unless the car was a complete dog i would keep it for longer or i would seriously consider what i really wanted and save my money.

Where i live current fuels prices are 89.9p a litre (superunleaded) It costs me about £35 - £40 to fill up and i get about 230 out of a full tank.

i ended up paying 99.9p per litre the other day cuz i was desperate........wounded, and that was some esso super unleaded stuff???
